Good Read: Kids Who ‘Talk Back’ Become More Successful Adults

in my case i think acceptance is just treating someone equally & giving them the same respect you would anyone else, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity.. you don't have to understand it, you don't have to agree with it, but you still can treat them equally & like decent human beings [or treat them like crap, if they are crappy people] .. it goes both ways. i know people that still don't understand my lifestyle, but they treat me well & accept me, some of my closest friends don't get it, but they will still ride for me. accepting people reminds me of the stance that a lot of companies have taken as far as treating lgbt/race/ & any other discriminated against group of people, you will respect them if you wish to work here, no options, no discrimination, doesn't matter what you agree with or think personally, this is the law of the company. i think by saying you want your child NOT to do something, isn't fully accepting, the reasoning behind why charlemagne wouldn't want his child being _______ [jobs, discrimination etc..] is the exact reason WHY we need people to be accepting & fight for the rights of everyone to be equal, ignorning the problem just because your child or family isn't involved doesn't help the situation at all.

lol, [sidenote ..did you just switch your thread up completely as i was typing !?]

its only beneficial if the kid knows how to think. read to your kids. explain to your kids. teach your kids all the time.

I talked back all the time. Was eventually kicked out. Already as successful as my parents in half the time. Better credit. Better job. Heathier relationships. Better tastes. Etc. Because I understood things and had my own opinions on fairness.

My bother talks back out of anger, spite, and rebellion. I'd be surprised if he doesnt end up in jail

I thought I was smarter than every adult that was around me. I talked back alot. I questioned EVERYTHING, I still do. Some say I am difficult, others say I ask great questions. The ones that call be difficult are usually the ones that can't give answers.

SN to post ratio is alarming

yeah I just asked questions a lot. Made my cousin cry at the age of 8 because I told her I was too smart for church and she thought I was going to hell etc.

Never really cared for people telling me what to do and still don't. I'll only listen to you if you're more successful than me in the area of topic. I've been that way. Except I'm an adult so I'm not a "bad kid" anymore for doing what I want. I was never an ******* as a kid. You just knew there was no point in trying to lecture me or get me to do something I wasn't down with.

Success isnt defined by money... its more about growth, relationships, peace, maturity. But if we include annual earnings as a part of what defines success, under 150k is unsuccessful. Thats just me, we all have different standards.

An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.

The Mexican replied, “only a little while. The American then asked why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs. The American then asked, “but what do you do with the rest of your time?”

The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar with my amigos. I have a full and busy life.” The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing, and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City, where you will run your expanding enterprise.”

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?”

To which the American replied, “15 – 20 years.”

“But what then?” Asked the Mexican.

The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions!”

“Millions – then what?”

The American said, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”

Not in America. Success is determined by money more then any of those.

150k is good though. 100k isn't much. Very attainable.

It depends who you are though. What i mean by that is that a lot of people in this world, including America, are not business people, and thats ok. So maybe their definition of success isnt about $. Maybe theyre a stay at home mom, and they are successful based on the relationships with their kids. Or maybe someone is dedicated to their craft 100% but isnt business minded and doesnt use their dedication for profits. So they could be philanthropist, artist, a chef, a hair stylist, a scientist, a body builder. And they define success by achievements in their area, not by money.
For me, im business minded and like i said if you make under 150k, thats unsuccessful.
