The idea that Kobe is going to be forgotten as a basketball player is so outright ludicrous that I can't believe people are even entertaining it by arguing about it.

Yeah this is true but recent greats have idolized players like Erving, Moses, Thomas, Robinson, Malone, Pippen, Ewing.

Granted some of those players don't have rings but they have a lot other accolades but still don't get mentioned a lot in all time goat conversations the further we get from their playing careers.

Dr. J gets brought up all the time. Whenever the dunk contest comes up. Even when MJ comes up people always say Dr. J was the father of that style. Malone still gets brought up in greatest PF discussions. Look at Reggie Miller, when people talk about Steph being the best shooter ever his name gets comes up. Kobe has had a bigger impact than all of dudes you named except DR. J. Ultimately players legacies are judged by how younger players view them and all these younger players look up to him.

Yes Kobe will not be forgetten and that's not what I meant at all but I think he may move down these collective lists like a Julius Erving.

When I was younger, Erving was getting so much love and probably was high up these collective lists. Whenever those NBA Films would come on he was always mentioned. Now when we talk about top 10-15 all time players he's rarely mentioned. He's been replaced by likes of Jordan, Duncan, Shaq, Hakeem, LeBron, Kobe for whatever reasons.

Recency bias is real unless you have sone overwhelming dominance that factors in.

You can't expect dudes to be up there with Steph, KD, Russ, Davis, etc in the post LeBum MVP era.
