I want you all to know I read most of your comments that are posted online. And I've decided to address the fans that posted comments about Dirk Nowitzki.

I have come under a lot of critical scrutiny because of things I said when answering a request to critique Dirk at an event at George Mason University. It seems that fans thought any critical statements I made about him were based in my need to put him down or lash out on him because I’m jealous of him- I must say that those people are mistaken. I harbor no ill will toward Mr. Nowitzki and I hope that people would understand that I achieved enough in my career that I have no need to put anyone down in order to promote my own achievements.

Dirk has had a first-rate career and any objective assessment of what he has done in the NBA would confirm that. Any time anyone can lead the NBA in scoring they must be an accomplished athlete.

However when I was asked about him I was contrasting his career as a front court player with other power-forwards like Gus Johnson and Karl Malone. Players who had an effect in many aspects of the game at the offensive and defensive ends of the court.

I hope this will clarify my position on Mr. Nowitzki and ends this controversy."
