Wait so you do admit that Kobe has been washed on defense

Yeah the big man game has been "weak", but he still has to compete, and he has done well against BG, Randolph, Nowitzki, Aldridge, Gasol brothers.
KG is the same age as Duncan and has been worse than Duncan the past couple years facing the same competition.

I get your point but again Duncan has the luxury of stability, a great team around him and superior coaching that's helped him last.

I guess it's KGs fault to he doesn't have that, like Kobe.

Lol put Kobe in that Spurs team and most likely they'd just implode. The system works because TD is willing to play within the system. Kobe will just start taking shots from Manu and Parker. Those two would probably be the first to leave. And the free agents would stay away.

Pau and Kobe are probably as close to friends as Kobe ever had on the Lakers. Even Pau left, b. Think about that.

I don't want to get into the Kobe vs Timmy hypotheticals but re: Pau, I'm 99% convinced he left because of management and coaching not because of Kobe. I don't blame him either years of being used incorrectly and underappreciated he was outta there.

Is Kobe taking his stans with him?

Damn I wish but i'm sure they'll still be around hating on the next player that's compared to Kobe or put above Kobe. If they start comparing Steph to Kobe, I gurantee Steph's # 1 haters will be Kobe fans.

:smh: Seriously. Dude's trying to discredit Duncan cause he outlasted their idol. Duncan's career > Kobe. Dudes act like Duncan is just out there playing against Luis Scola while Kobe is guarding Steph, Durant, Bron, or Westbrook every night. Please. :rolleyes

Put Kobe on the Spurs teams the past 3 years. Guaranteed he would shoot them out of the playoffs

Guy doesn't even contribute anything to defense anymore

Kobe has to guard on the perimeter. Duncan is playing in a league devoid of legit bigs. I don't see how anyone could compare Kobe and Duncan like its apples to apples.

Duncan has feasted on the weakest era of bigs in NBA history. Surrounded by stability. Who are the bigs besides Shaq he's faced that are great? Yao, Ben Wallace?

Bigs dont just guard their man.

They have to do more than a perimeter guy, rim protect, rebound and help. All of which Duncan has done at an elite level the past few seasons.

It's hard to have a decent basketball conversation with am this foolish statements being thrown around.

Kobe is not what he was but dudes number speak for themselves.

We don't hear much about Karl Malone and that's because he doesn't have the hardware. Kobe Duncan etc etc will go down as immortals.

Stop it .... Only Elway went out on top ... Almost everyone else has always lost a step or been pitiful but no one remembers. Mays Ruth Farve Shaq etc. This is momentarily because people are savoring the downfall but in a few years ... People will forget.

And subsequently choked away game 7 by missing an easy layup and putback in the final minute of an extremely close game. But hey let's all forget about that.

Bruh...woulda never been a game 7 without Timmy ballin' that series. One blown layup doesn't erase how well he played

This is the first year in Timmy's entire career that he isn't arguably the Spurs best player.....Think about that for a minute.

And before the addition of LMA and David West this offseason, the Spurs didn't bring in any big time fee agents.

Boris Diaw was on his way out the league. Patty Mills a late 2nd round pick on his way out. Danny Green (LeBron's Dance Partner), on his way out. Etc etc. Timmy was fortunate to play with Manu and Timmy and more importantly Pop for a large part of his career....but we can't overlook the fact that those guys were lucky to play with TIMMY for their career.

My man had 10 & 18 last game. Playing elite defense. He's about to be 40. Kobe is one of the best to lace em up, but these last few years have shown us that Timmy >> Kobe.

Unreal

I don't think Duncan's legacy should be dinged for stability.
If you look at the Spurs' roster 2 years ago, it wasn't that remarkable. Other than Parker and somewhat Leonard (still developing at that time), he had a washed Ginobili and a bunch of role players. Popovich always tells the media and people that Duncan is the heart of the team.

And Kobe deserves the blame for not being a stabilizing force. I feel bad for KG doe.

And y'all KEEP acting like it wasn't Kobe's fault for this to happen.

Like many keep saying, there's a reason why Duncan still has his good team and Kobe has what he got. Kobe still thinking he's the # 1 option should tell you that, but ooooh, you guys as stated MANY times on this board "rather see Kobe shoot 40 times than Nick Young" or whatever other dumb reasoning you try to give as to why Kobe is ball hogging like he's ALWAYS done.

Exactly. What Timmy had 38pts in game 6 of the 2013 Finals, before Pop took him out and Bosh got that offensive rebound to Ray Allen 3....

That is forgotten.

I see logic and reason is running on E today.

Bottom line: Kobe has played for 20 ******* years. This day was eventually coming. All the silly *** rhetoric about "if he did this or did that, blah blah blah." doesn't mean ****. No matter where YOU rank him, his legacy and standing amongst his peers is undisputed. He's a first ballot HOF'er and a generational talent. So is Duncan, so is Dirk, KG, so on and so forth. All these imaginary top whatever lists are silly.

Agreed.
Kobe never had to guard those guys you mentioned the past couple years
He's had to guard the worst guards on the floor so he wouldn't be a huge liability for his team

Duncan always had to defend against the best bigs the opponent had.

If we're talking the last four or so years, Splitter would normally guard the best opposing big while Duncan got to hang around the basket to protect the rim.

That team narrative is so lazy IMO. Scaring away big name star free agents, sure very possible. But there's also drafting and trades and whatever else ways to build a team. You gotta give props to the Spurs FO for getting a Manu in the 2nd round or Kawhi mid-1st for essentially George Hill and then surrounding them with good role players. Trading away 4 1st round picks for the corpse of Steve Nash and then having a circus carousel of coaches since Phil isn't going to make a cohesive team. No assets to work with.

Nash would've at least been useful on offense if he never broke his leg

I hope Damian Lillard never wins anything.

Are you talking about regular season or playoff/finals?
Because for the regular season those guys would switch roles, but during the playoffs, I saw Duncan guarding guys like Gasol, BG, Nowitzki, and Bosh.
