No. The cap doesn't work like that. They can go over to retain their own guys. It doesn't mean that if they don't give Kanter 80 ...that they can go spend that 80 elsewhere.

Why is Kobe entertaining the Olympics? He can barely walk after a game and is shooting 30%. He not only is ruining development for the younger playsers on his team he trying to affect other younger players also.

It's hilarious that people are really going to try to justify their distaste for Kobe by pretending to give a **** about whatever player would occupy what is basically the 12th man role on the team.
You're going to really sit up here and act like it's such a huge travesty if Kobe "steals" a roster part from someone who wouldn't make or break the chance at gold and would likely be young enough to play in another Olympic tourney anyway.

Kobe always names dudes that he's better than
. When they used to ask him who he felt the best player was he would say brandon roy or melo but never lebron. He's lit up bowen, allen, posey plenty of times. I don't think he's ever had a good game against tayshaun prince, maybe once but that guy really had kobe's number

The US can send their third string team and get gold. There will be injuries and other circumstances where guys won't even be able to participate. It isn't vital for the absolute best players to be selected therefore I don't see an issue with Bryant getting the nod. Besides his NBA accomplishments, what he did in the 2008 Olympics against Spain earned him this opportunity
