I dont know if yall peeped in the okafor video, but before he goes after the guy, you see his teammate stumbling, seemingly in some kind of pain or daze. We dont know the context. Minus him being a multimillionaire athlete, this is just some regular ol scene you find in every city on a weekend night. Suspend him a couple games and move on. Im sure hes hearing it from every possible person. Pops probably grounded him

Suspend him for what? There was no arrest.

I mean i dont see the issue either , to me its boys will be boys but , this is a business, he represents the NBA. If a video of you engaging in street brawls were to land on your bosses desk, youre not gonna get reprimanded? They fine and suspend guys for saying inapproriate things on social media, and this is slightly more serious.

Depending on how coverage the Jah story garners, it will be interesting to see what Silver does. I don't believe there is any conduct policy comparable to the NFL but even if there wasn't an arrest, setting the precedent that you can KO a guy in a street fight and not get suspended would put Silver in a tough spot. Of course we don't know the whole story yet

If this happened in the NFL and there was no arrest, I wonder what Goddell would do. srs

From DEC 2014

Silver: (It is) something we’re continuing to look at…We’re studying the NFL personal conduct policy. We have standards in place now. We have standards for players that commit violent acts. We have dealt with domestic violence issues in the past and recently, as well. So I’m on the fence a little bit on whether we want a policy that so precisely lays out penalties for issues without dealing with the complexity behind them. I think sometimes judgment is critically important and, remember, we’re different than the NFL. Our players have the right to appeal off-court discipline to a neutral arbitrator, so there is a check in place, already, for our players.

On the role of player discipline for the commissioner and a neutral arbitrator:

Silver: I think it is critically important that someone, in this case me as the commissioner, be in the position to act quickly and to represent the interests of everyone involved in the league. At the same time, I accept that there should be a due process check on behalf of the players and, putting myself in the shoes of the players or their union, I’m comfortable with the fact that they have the right to go to a neutral third party and, if the view is I was unfairly swayed by public opinion, for example…that ultimately turned out to be not fair to the player, that’s the job of that neutral third-party to come in and say he overdid it in this case.

We all have to be on notice that we are public figures, we can be scrutinized, we will be scrutinized for things we do. But also, if people make mistakes, there will be a penalty for it. It doesn’t necessarily mean you should lose your job if you make one mistake. I think that’s where the judgment comes in. Those (cases) are very fact-specific and I think we have to look at each case individually.

For sure Jahlil will be get fined, probably get suspended for a game or two. Doubt it would be more than five games though, Silver ain't gonna let the Sixers be that bad

For Conduct that is not what the league wants to represent? They'll find a reason man, I doubt he gets off with no games missed

Yeah, except there's no base legally to justify suspending him. We're talking about people's money here. There has to be a justifiable reason to suspend him. "Conduct that is not what the league wants to represent" is not a concrete reason to hit his pockets.

Larry Sanders was on tape throwing chairs in a club brawl. No charges were filed...no suspension came down from the league.

Yea this isn't the dictatorship that is Goodell and the NFL. The league has no basis since it was outside of the basketball realm, but like Gerald Green of the Heat, I think the Sixers can suspend him.

Was there any backlash when the NBA didn't suspend Larry Sanders? A dude got bashed in the head with a bottle and had to get 8 stitches
