Announcing his retirement at this time will haunt him later. This is probably the worst time to announce such a thing. Dude knows from their record, mathematically (pretty much) they have no chance at winning a championship. This is another form of him quitting like he did against the Suns.

Then came back in Game 4 in a pivotal game that Shaq fouls out of, and wins the game....

The Lakers still won the game where Kobe only played 9 minutes. Shaq dropped 40 points, 24 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Shaq fouled out in overtime when they were up. Shaq had 36 points and 21 rebounds. Kobe did a nice job finishing the last 2 minutes though.
