like i alluded earlier, the ref coming out of the closet is sort of irrelevant. he has his reasons. those reasons may or may not have anything to do with rondo's verbal attack (though they most likely appears to be that way). if his reason(s) was to bring attention to the homophobic slurs being directed at him by rondo it doesn't take away from the seriousness of this issue and it certainly doesn't make kennedy some kind of grandstanding dude who's just seeking attention. it's not on him. it's all on rondo

is that you adam silver...... that's bs

timing is everything in this day & age

BILL pulled a power move cuz he knew the light was on em.....

simple solution...throw rondo out of the league. the guy is an embarrassment to the league, would be better off without him
not serious, but kinda

Reddick is shooting like 46% from three. I don't think he's ever really been out of form so far this year.

For my advanced stats people, can someone post what his %'s are when he has to take more than one or two dribbles? I feel like the majority of his misses come when he isn't open off the curl and he actually has to take a couple dribbles to get his shot off.

see guys like tom ziller climbing onto a soapbox he would've never set a finger on ......

Rajon Rondo is asking us to believe he had no hate in his heart and no intention of offending Bill Kennedy when he dropped the f-bomb on him a week ago in Mexico City. Unfortunately, Rondo lost all benefit of the doubt the second he used that word as a slur against anyone. If you use that awful word so freely in any context -- even in anger -- you can't be surprised when people don't buy your claimed intent.

In his non-apology apology on Twitter Monday, Rondo seemed to claim he didn't know Kennedy, a longtime NBA referee, was gay. This is completely beside the point. Calling a man you know to be gay a f----t is a special sort of detestable insult. But calling a man a f----t period is a detestable insult. This is why Rondo was punished by the NBA and ripped by the media and fans. It is 2015. This is well-worn territory. It's been four years since the NBA has had to punish a player for using that word. For Rondo to defend himself by claiming he only used the word in anger is completely absurd. You can't use that word in anger or jest or anything else. It's off-limits unless you want sanctions both official and to your reputation.

Rondo might have known Kennedy was gay. Tim Donaghy launched that rumor into the public eye years ago. Donaghy made some awfully serious/seriously awful claims about the genesis of the feud between Doc Rivers (then Rondo's coach) and Kennedy. These claims by Donaghy were never front-page news, and Howard Beck has since debunked the biggest manifestation of said claims.

Yet it's hard to believe Rondo never heard the rumors. That history plus Kennedy's decision to come out now after Rondo's verbal abuse adds some vicious context to the situation.

Rondo doesn't understand the level to which he messed up. He couldn't! He couldn't possibly grasp the severity of his actions and still come out with a pitifully weak statement like this.

My actions during the game were out of frustration and emotion, period!
— Rajon Rondo (@RajonRondo) December 14, 2015

They absolutely do not reflect my feelings toward the LGBT community. I did not mean to offend or disrespect anyone.
— Rajon Rondo (@RajonRondo) December 14, 2015

Here's the thing. This statement is pitifully weak, but it's also extremely specific in what it is trying to communicate. By claiming the slur was dropped out of "frustration and emotion" and by claiming the rant doesn't reflect Rondo's feelings toward the LGBT community, Rondo is trying to signal clearly that he didn't know Kennedy was gay. In other words, he's saying, "I called him a f----t because I was mad, not because he's gay."

Rondo is trying to convince us to give him the benefit of the doubt. But you lose the benefit of the doubt when you use that word. Period.

The problem with Rondo's statement is that in his haste to attempt to gain the benefit of the doubt from us, he forgot to actually apologize. "I did not mean to offend or disrespect anyone" is not an apology! You know how we can tell? Because it doesn't include the words "I apologize" or "I'm sorry" or "I deeply regret" or anything remotely resembling what apologetic people say.

Your actions led to a man in the public eye being forced to come out, perhaps before he was ready. You did that. Step the hell up and acknowledge your role in a painful episode. Don't tell us you didn't mean it. Tell us you're sorry for saying it!

No, Rondo's gone the way of the coward, piling up this mountain of disappointment ever higher. He opted out of media availability on Monday. He had an opportunity to apologize on camera, to acknowledge his failure and show remorse. Instead, he opted for that pathetic Twitter statement and let his teammates, his coach and his general manager answer for him.

So he puts out his little tweets, the team released a statement from Vlade Divac and Vivek Ranadivé -- a statement that condemns Rondo's comments but claims he's apologized for them, which he really has not -- and they think that's it. Nope. This isn't going away until Rondo actually shows remorse. The NBA won't hit him with another punishment -- that's not the league's style -- but you'd better believe the league office is pushing the Kings (explicitly or not) to resolve this before it spirals out of control.

Monday wasn't enough. Rondo needs to get out there ASAP and give a full-throated, no-qualifier apology to Kennedy, to Kennedy's family and to the NBA community. (And that's a minimum requirement.)

It seems so easy, doesn't it? Show remorse and apologize when you say something awful. It's not rocket science. Hell, it's not even Connect Four. Yet here we are, waiting on something that common sense dictates should have been handled immediately. The clock's ticking.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Kings guard Rajon Rondo tried to clarify on Twitter why he made a homophobic slur to longtime NBA referee Bill Kennedy, but stopped short of publicly apologizing for his actions.

Rondo initially denied directing the comments at Kennedy during the NBA's investigation of the Dec. 3 incident, but tweeted late Monday afternoon that he made the slur "out of frustration and emotion" after Kennedy ejected him from the game. Rondo's tweets came hours after Yahoo Sports published the details of Rondo's homophobic comments in a story in which Kennedy announced he is gay.

Rondo practiced with the Kings on Monday, but did not speak to the media afterward. He is suspended without pay for Tuesday's home game against the Houston Rockets for "directing a derogatory and offensive term towards a game official and not leaving the court in a timely manner upon his ejection."

Kings owner Vivek Ranadive apologized to Kennedy in a statement on Monday.

"Rajon's comment is not reflective of the culture of the Sacramento Kings organization or the world we want to live in," Ranadive said in the statement. "He's apologized, and has been suspended by the NBA. On behalf of the team, I apologize to Bill Kennedy for any harm this may have caused."

Kings general manager Vlade Divac said the franchise didn't support Rondo's "unacceptable" comments.

"It went too far," Divac said. "What he said, he doesn't mean that. We don't support it as an organization. When I saw him today, he apologized. He felt it was a bad call [by Kennedy], but definitely it was wrong. The sanctions on [Rondo] will be supported.

"He felt bad and he didn't mean to offend anybody. He said something that is unacceptable."

Divac later apologized to Kennedy in a call, but was not certain if Rondo would reach out to Kennedy.

"I was a player and this doesn't have anything to do with Bill or any other referee," Divac said. "They do a great job. I felt bad as a person and also felt as the general manager of the organization we don't support that."

Kings coach George Karl said Kennedy is a "good referee" and he was "disappointed" in the comments from Rondo that he deemed "out of character."

"We had a distracted practice today," Karl said.

Rondo is averaging 12.6 points, a league-high 11 assists and 6.9 rebounds with the Kings after signing a one-year, $10 million contract last offseason. The four-time All-Star struggled with the Dallas Mavericks last season and his attitude was questioned. Prior to this incident, Rondo appeared to be having a good season with the Kings. Rondo will be eligible to return to the court for Friday's road game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

"Other than the Mexico City game, I can't remember the last bad game he's had," Karl said of Rondo. "He's played above my expectations. He's played at an All-Star level. His numbers say you should talk to him about him being on an All-Star level. He's exceeding my expectations."

Calling Bill Kennedy a "flamer" wasn't idiotic?

With all the talk about Kobe being washed and inefficient, what about Derrick Rose? Holy **** he's been bad.
He's been bad.

He's been bad while trying to coast.
But he's been a solid floor general, putting the ball where the team needs it.
Butler now has the role of Derrick Rose.

Wait until the second half and we'll truly see what he's about.

Rose has been bad, but at least he's not taking shots away from people who can shoot a better percentage.

Derrick shooting badly, but keeping the ball moving > Kobe no damns given and shooting no matter what happens

do you actually know if what I just said was false or you just figure an office gif with Michael will get your non point across.,... cuz fyi its not false

G pop's pov

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was unsurprised by Sacramento Kings guard Rajon Rondo's alleged homophobic slurs at NBA referee Bill Kennedy.

Rondo was suspended for one game without pay by the NBA on Friday for "directing a derogatory and offensive term towards a game official" during a game against the Boston Celtics a week earlier.

Kennedy, in his 18th season with the NBA, told Yahoo Sports he decided to come out as gay to "send a message to young men and women in sports that you must allow no one to make you feel ashamed of who you are".

When asked about Rondo's comments on Monday, Popovich told reporters he was not surprised by the source.

"Why would I be surprised?" Popovich said, via the Washington Post.

"You see it all the time. It's unfortunate. It's disgusting, because Billy is a great guy, and has been a class act on and off the court.

"As far as anybody's sexual orientation, it's nobody's business. It just shows ignorance to act in a derogatory way toward anybody in the LGBT community. It doesn't make sense. But surprised, of course not."

After he was ejected from the game, Rondo confronted Kennedy from the sidelines.

Rondo issued a statement via his Twitter account on Monday, writing: "My actions during the game were out of frustration and emotion, period!

"They absolutely do not reflect my feelings toward the LGBT community. I did not mean to offend or disrespect anyone."

He's actually serious. Wow.

I really need to get that warning rescinded, Meth. I did nothing but point out the obvious. That shouldn't warrant a warning.

I don't mind this Derrick at all, for the first half of the season.

Him understand his body and the way he's playing, I think he's only getting his timing right and then he'll start playing during the 2nd half of the season.

As of right now though, he's gonna learn to experiment and try to run Hoiball as we can see, he's doing more facilitating than he is scoring.

So I trust in him.

Same way I trust in the Warriors bouncing back and going on another 10+ win streak. lol
