He's a restricted free agent next summer. He has no choice, really.

I can only imagine the type of money Clarkson is going to sign for

LA has to overpay to keep him. He about to get that Gilbert Arenas 2nd round but I came up money

i didnt even know he had a turnover or assist

would rather the kid try to be aggressive, go 2/10 with 6 turnovers than that no show last night

wiggins was just as bad, didnt even want to be on the floor playing basketball
Read Nazr's blog I posted a few pages back. Weaknesses withstanding, Russell can't just dominate like we all hope because of the team construction and dynamic.
its not about dominating or even being good, he just didn't do anything. he spends all his time dribbling 35 feet from the basket waiting for a screen to come by only to walk through the pnr and pass the ball off. you cant blame the system for this lack of aggression, sure byron's system doesnt help but great players make plays out of nothing that's what makes them great.

hopefully it's just his first game and once he gets comfortable he will be more aggressive but so far I have not seen it. Even his preseason highlights are mostly mid range pull ups
I can agree with that. But right now, I just don't see him having the opportunity to be aggressive with the current roster construction and the dumbass coach.

He wont have an optimal opportunity to be aggressive and he wont be put in a position to shine (bring back Dantoni) but everytime he touches the ball is an opportunity to be aggressive.

Hopefully he realises the situation he's in and takes it upon himself to create rather than letting things come to him

I just read this though. So you're telling me the highest Clarkson can get paid is 57 million? This can't be true can it

Because of a quirk in the rules, often referred to as the "Gilbert Arenas provision," other franchises are limited to signing Clarkson as a restricted free agent to a four-year offer sheet as high as $57 million. The limitation on what other teams can offer Clarkson decidedly puts the Lakers in the driver's seat, should re-signing him at a high dollar amount become the priority.

What's the difference between Clarksons deal and the one Draymond was under?

Did the Warriors hold Green's Early Bird Rights? The Lakers did for Clarkson

Draymond had three seasons under his belt. Gilbert Arenas provision is for players with 2

Ah, nice catch. That provision screws the player though

Clarkson would be able to command more than that on the market

Yes. This has be posted a couple of times already.

Other teams can only offer up to $57M. However, he and the Lakers can agree to a max contract, which will be more than $57M.

Agent should have asked for a three year deal. But that wasn't likely considering Clarkson was drafted lower and had to play his way on the team. Even though Draymond was also a 2nd round pick...he was considered a steal and likely apart of gilolden state's future. The lakers sort of lucked into Clarkson.

Welp. Guess we won't be freeing Jordan Clarkson anytime soon

It's easier for defenses to focus on a single offensive threat if it's a big man.

They should start Perkins instead

I feel like the contract situation hurts both Clarkson and the Lakers. I've *****ed enough times about it in the Lakers thread.

Edit:

FYI: Teams can only sign second round picks to three or four year contracts if they are under the cap. The Lakers could have done this, but they used the cap space instead to claim Boozer last summer. Hence, why Clarkson got a two year contract.

Thankfully the Lakers seem to have learned from their mistake last summer because they signed Anthony Brown to a three year contract over the summer.

I meant they shouldn't* have let him sign a 2 yr. If he had just signed a 3 yr which is usually customary he wouldn't be hampered by that Gilbert provision.

The Clipper game should be a lot of fun tonight. Might wear my DeAndre shirt to the game.

Speaking of Boozer, I'd take him on the Wizards over Nene.

Wish there was more front court depth so they could DNP-CD his ***. He's such a waste.

Will the Lakers offer him more than 57M? That would be interesting

Have we seen history of this before?

The 911 calls about John Henson's experience with the jewelry store have been released. This is ridiculous all around

Patty was EXTRA scared, could have costed them their lives too claiming definitively they were te same "suspects" who showed up last week around closing and had stolen plates
