DeMar DeRozan says he hates talking about free agency.

Well, someone is doing it on his behalf.

Brian Lewis of the New York Post:

“a source close to DeRozan told The Post that he will opt out, becoming a free agent”

This confirms that DeRozan isn’t stupid but says little else.

If he opted in, he’d make $10,050,000 next season. He’ll earn much more than that in free agency – maybe even a max contract that starts at more than $25 million.

DeRozan – averaging 22.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game – is having a career year at age 26. With the salary cap skyrocketing and a dearth of quality wings, he’ll have no shortage of suitors.

Will the Raptors re-sign him? They seem to like him, but this core has yet to win a playoff series. If they get bounced in the first-round around again this year, they could break it up.

He’ll be the type of free agent – unrestricted, to be highly paid, coming from a team potentially changing directions – that sometimes gets away.

Still, I’d call Toronto his most likely landing spot. A five-year max contract should run through his prime, so the Raptors face reduced risk of overpaying on the back end. He appears to like Toronto, too.

The Raptors are a good fit for DeRozan, but both sides will at least have an opportunity to explore other options.

Dudes should definitely not be "bragging" about DLO's season, I hope there wasn't too much of that going on. My thing is, he's playing solid for a rookie. I don't know if I see perennial All-Star either, but look at someone like Mike Conley. I feel like he is generally respected and looked at by NT (outside of @Chester McFloppy) in high regard. I don't see why Russell couldn't be that caliber of a guard

I definitely don't think dude is having a historically bad year for a #2 pick. I also argue that there are only two or three guys at MOST that I would have taken before Russell

I think DLo's per 36 or per 40 puts him in the top 3 rookies of all time tho

If @Freeze PMs you and asks for your home address, don't give it to him. He wants to throw you down a flight of stairs.

more lies from leneedsmorehelp

LeBron James finally addressed Andrew Wiggins' absence in the Sports Illustrated letter where the superstar announced his return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. James mentioned Kyrie Irving, Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters by name as "talented young guys," and he left out No. 1 overall picks Wiggins and Anthony Bennett, who both ended up being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love.

"I didn't know the kid, really," James told Yahoo Sports' Michael Lee. "I knew Dion. I knew Kyrie. I knew Tristan. I knew all the guys that I was playing with before. I didn't know the kid, so it wasn't no big issue to me."

A few thoughts:

1. Maybe it wasn't a big issue for James, but it was obvoius that everybody else would run with it. The Love-for-Wiggins rumors were in full swing, and the then-19-year-old's summer got awkward when it took until Aug. 23 for the trade to be officially completed. I'll never forget him telling reporters at summer league how excited he was to play with James, and them following up by asking if James had reached out to him yet. Wiggins said no. I'll also never forget him saying the same thing in this SportsCenter interview at the rookie photo shoot:

2. James didn't know Wiggins well, but they weren't completely unfamiliar. Wiggins put on a show at the LeBron James Skills Academy in 2012, and here's another thing I'll never forget: Wiggins quietly waiting outisde of the visiting locker room at the Air Canada Centre in 2013 when the Miami Heat were in town. When James came out, he greeted Wiggins with, "What's up? You good? How's everything?"

3. This is all moot now. As Lee explained in detail, everybody seems happy with what happened. James wanted to play with Love, a proven superstar, and compete for a championship immediately. Wiggins didn't have to wait his turn; in Minnesota, he was given the ball and encouraged to be as aggressive as possible. It's fair to wonder what might have been with Wiggins next to James, but it doesn't seem like there are any hard feelings.

Rozen balding like Kobe when he was that age. He should go to LA.

Part of the Mike Conley's respect comes from the fact that he's humble, considered underrated, a good defender and a key contributor on a gritty good team. Nobody hates the Grizzlies.

I have a hard time imaging dudes respecting or calling d-lo underrated after doing hotline bling dances, playing no defense, living the Hollywood life, acting like a star already and having cuts in his eyebrows laugh.gif.

Perception is everything on NT.

That letter was hilariously obvious that Wiggins was getting shipped out. How you exclude the #1 pick and a prospect that highly regarded. Yet you include Dion ******* Waiters

You right about NT's perception :lol I was just trying to use a real life comparison. If DLO pans out to be a Mike Conley status guard it would have been a fine pick and solid career. Don't have to be an All-Star to be a real good player

IMO I feel he could very well be an All-Star some day

Can't wait for Mudiay to return though :lol8o

Last year he was nearly DPOY. But he wasn't a great shooter and wasn't a huge part of the offense.

This year he's playing the same caliber defense, shooting 41% from 3 and averaging more than 7 assists as a PF - while racking up multiple triple doubles and being part of one of the greatest starts in history.

What's the big deal? He's gotten a lot better - arguably a top PF right now. Has nothing to do with leadership or hype.

When dudes run out posting highlight videos of 6/17 shooting nights and 14pts in a blowout loss with the majority of the points in garbage time....Imma call it out. When he's 5/22 in his last few games....and everybody is quiet...is what's funny to me. But he has a good game, and he's a "future all star" etc.

Parker thru 25 games was a lot better than D-Lo has been this year. And this year, he's coming off a major injury and playing a limited role...so it's a lil different.

All in all, I'm interested to see how D-lo turns out. In either going to eat crow, or look like a genius. That's the fun of this pimp.gif.

You do the same thing tho.

You've been rather quiet when Mudiay has had TERRIBLE games this season but be quick to point out Russell's flaws. You were quick on the draw to remind us of Mudiay's abilities when he had a couple decent weeks to begin the year. After that....you ain't been waving that flag as hard.

I know year one don't mean **** in the grand scheme of things...but the numbers say Russell > Mudiay right now.
