SMitch played KAT 6 seconds in the 4th quarter last night. And it's not like Gorgui was hot and made no mistakes. Absolutely love Gorgui and his role as our backup center, but SMitch is making all of us hate him laugh.gif

He hasn't even had to explain to the Media why this is happening with KAT? KAT's not bothered?

Perhaps Sam was preserving him being the 1st game of a back to back? I really can't wrap my mind around why KAT didn't get in the game more last night late.

How about Lavine finally shooting out of that mild slump? Shabazz has been playing well too. Even Bjelica was gettin off a little last night.

Tonight highlighted one of my main problems with Sam Mitchell as a coach.

After Gorgui gets outworked for 2 huge offensive rebounds, he’s allowed to stay in the game to blow a wide-open dunk. That’s the game right there. If that’s KAT, SMitch blows his stack on the first O-board given up, yanks him from the game, and he isn’t allowed back on the floor to blow another box-out or dunk.

95% of the time anybody on the bench goes off, like both Shabazz and LaVine did tonight, he plays Gorgui the entire 4th quarter while KAT rots on the bench. He is so damn superstitious that he refuses to believe that Gorgui might not have had an essential part in the scoring outburst.

We needed KAT on the court for the final 9 minutes. Instead, we got another 15 straight minutes of Gorgui.

I like Gorgui as a piece going forward on this team. As a 25-year old backup who has probably reached his ceiling.

KAT is the franchise player here. KAT is the first overall pick. KAT is the one putting up historic numbers,

Yet SMitch jerks him around, and plays Dieng entirely too long and entirely too often.

Another winnable game, blown. GG Thunder.

This. I don't think it makes him a "beta" to recognize that his team still has a lot of work to do to be as good as GSW and SAS. Blake and JJ Reddick have said similar things about the Clippers this season. Rather have the guys on the team be realistic and have a goal then be delusional about how good they are.

Reach. He didn't say much there. It's not like he said he thought that they couldn't beat GSW or SAS, just that they couldn't flip the switch like they could

Exactly. laugh.gif

I know the beta narrative fits nicely into that quote, but nah. Having clarity is separate than being beta.

This is clarity.

Delusional optimism is one of my pet peeves with people. laugh.gif

Happens ALL THE TIME, too. And I'm the jerk who brings people back down to the reality of the situation by saying something like what KD said, ALL THE TIME. laugh.gif

Exactly...these aren't 30 year old vets. These are young guys learning how to play; what exactly does Mitchell expect?

Seems like rookies have soft mindsets.  What's up with these new kids on the block crying and sulking.

Love it when a coach reprimands a player through social media/ media.  Obviously there are numerous discussions BEHIND DOORS that we DO NOT SEE or HEAR ABOUT.  But every time people read something like that, they keep thinking how coaches and players don't communicate on the back end.  THEY DO!

SMitch definitely has me confused. Calls out LaVine publicly, yet I've observed him routinely more minutes to LaVine than KAT in critical stretches of games, but no explanation as to KAT. Weird.

Maybe he's been saying it to Lavine all along in private and the player has just not responded like a professional should. Time to CYA and let the world know you have given the slacker every chance. If you are a coach and know in a year you'll be put on the hot seat for underperforming players, get ahead of it and let everyone know they why of the underperforming.

Maybe it looks to be in poor taste to air someone out publicly, but rest assured nobody is defending the coach when he is getting skewered for all the losses the underskilled players are causing.

Edit: I put MCW instead of Lavine. Sometimes these two feel like the same player...lol

I mean, he could just not play him, or play him less minutes, or play him at a position he's more fit to play.. I think everybody in here and everyone who watches TWolves games know that Lavine is not a PG. SMitch talks about Lavine not being able to make even the simple passes. But he's still throwing him out there playing a lot of minutes as our back up point.

Lavine has been pretty decent when Ricky is in there with him as the primary ball handler. A lot better than when he's running the show with the second team.

It'll be interesting in the next 5-10 years to see the types of people taking head coaching jobs in the NBA.

Feel like more and more the players of the 1980s-1990s will be eliminated from head coaching jobs (besides Scott Skiles because he's a coaching roach) because of their outdated methods on and off the court.

Never liked seeing people being aired out in the media like that. Handle that **** internally.
