I picked D'Angelo.
1. D'Angelo has great court vision, and can make passes that few can make.
2. He's great in transition. His ability to pass the ball ahead and find a guy perfectly in stride is pleasant.
3. He's been a solid passer on the Pick & Roll. Gets the ball in the pocket really well. Problem is that Hibbert stinks in P&R. Sets good picks, but can't roll/catch the ball. Randle should be able to roll to the hoop, but that's not in his skill set currently. Also, we're an iso heavy team, and don't run P&R nearly as much as we should
4. Russell can actually shoot the ball. His percentages are low, but when he was missing a lot more, he wasn't missing shots embarrassingly, in the beginning of the year, he was short on his shot. He wasn't getting enough behind it. I'm much more confident in Russell being a 36-37% 3 point shooter than I am with Mudiay even being a 30% 3point shooter.
And Mudiay's inability to shoot the 3, will seriously hurt him. It negates a lot of his athletic ability. And spoils the P&R because rather than having to chase him over the top, you can sag off on him. Also if he's not going to finish well at the hoop, then he really does nothing for the offense.
As for Russell's aggressiveness, Byron has allowed that to happen. He let Kobe run free reign, when he's one of the few guys who could have stopped it. Instead Kobe was the one who had to make the call himself to pull back. Randle was aggressive, was playing fine. One of the best rebounders in the league this year. And Byron benches him for no reason. That just shows how short of a leash Byron had on the guys.
I think Russell ends up with a better quality career, but don't think Mudiay will be bad either.
But if you wanted to put up the comparison between the 2 right now, Mudiay looks every bit more horrid.
