Why isn't Spo a Elite coach? It's all subjective. Without Curry I doubt Kerr would have won that title. Same as Spo without LeBron hasn't won anything. We give Kerr the nod but not Spo although LeBron hasn't won a thing without him as his coach.

Since Jimmy Butler's very public criticism, "Buckets" has been enjoying a savage 2016 minus the Dallas dud. Two critiques I have are: Getting the team to compete and perform better on the road, and developing Mirotic's offensive consistency. Bulls are 24-16 and currently holding the #3 seed, to be expected shifting and transitioning from two polar opposites in HCs. Thibs had a very distinct grinding, defensive approach. Mayor's success is predicated on his offensive system. You can't expect the same core of players to seamlessly adapt a brand new mantra.

Valid points...I would argue the Bulls would be the #2 or #1 seed with Jimmy's emergence and Thibs as coach.

I'm looking forward to Shaka in the NBA as well, once he convinces his wife it's the right move.

You think Smart will leave college? IMO his coaching style is perfect for the college game.

Need some context...worst player or worst player that gets decent minutes?

Significant FO experience with Minny, Mayor had his hand in acquiring Love, Rubio, Pek.

Before he assumed coaching duties at ISU, Cyclones hadn't sniffed the tourney since '01. Also without a winning season in-conference since '05, prior to Hoiberg.

Likable personality, beloved figure in Iowa. But more importantly, I trust his offensive system/sets.

He's pretty damn close. Somewhere behind Pop, Stevens, Carlisle.

His resume is great don't get me wrong. I'm just strictly talking about his ability to coach an NBA team. I understand it's a huge transition from Thibbs. I just have to see him have success first before I automatically group him with the elite. He definitely shouldn't be discounted since he's unproven, but he's just that, unproven

What from this year is a noticeable positive coaching tactic that we've seen on Chicago? Honest question

I like Thibs as a HC a lot, but I'm not so sure. It's conceivable Chicago hypothetically closes the 1.5-game gap they're behind on Toronto. Keep in mind this Raptors squad has missed Jonas and Carroll for long periods. Thibs probably doesn't make up the 4.5-game advantage Cleveland currently enjoys over the Bulls.

The main issue is how Thibs wears and grinds his players into the ground. Not only with minutes, but his coaching philosophy was extremely taxing physically and mentally. Maximum effort for 48: Out-grind, out-work your opponents. Hustle. Energy. Normal rotation got nothing left by the playoffs, when/where you need that extra gear or reserve.

Texas' $22M and vast resources will keep Shaka and his family happy for a while as he rebuilds the Longhorns' basketball program. The process will keep Smart occupied for a few years, but I believe his ultimate place is the NBA. He'd have to adapt his coaching style significantly. Can't play "Havoc" defense in the NBA and keep such a long bench the way he did at times at VCU.

I'm seeing results already though. Chicago's beaten Cleveland once in the opener and Toronto twice. Butler has transformed into a legitimate superstar and #1 scoring option. McDermott is showing overall growth under Mayor. Hoiberg brings offensive stability. Bulls are rising in point differential, which is a pivotal measuring stick for team strength. I believe they were 15th at some point in December to 11th now. Chicago is also 10th in scoring, ascending after a "slow" start. They're 7th best in opponents' 3PT%, which is a huge shock for such an offensive-minded HC. Mayor's adapted without a hitch accumulating an array of injuries to his PGs: Rose, Hinrich, Brooks. Now Jo goes down with a bad shoulder. Firm believer this squad wins the East within 2 years (this season included).

been saying it forever , coaching aint as important as many make it out to be. scott brooks got replaced and its the same damn team same offense? nothing changed. kg , ray ray and pp won doc a title. nothing to do with doc. miami team won with spo , this gs team has a substitute coach and havent missed a beat.

Yep, he kinda flamed out at Utah but you can't do much better than a 3-time NBA champion as AHC.

it's like the Bulls almost didn't miss a step defensively. The best thing with a HC like hoiberg's offensive minded, thr players believes that without defense =/= no champions

Thunder iso ball = Cleveland iso ball.

Lebron and Kyrie won't beat the Warriors, neither will Russ and KD.
