LeBron's offensive game has improved over the last 5-6 years. The way you put it was like he's Dwight and his game has been stagnant.

wider court means nothing if the 3 point line is the same.

Im starting to think they need to move it back. its Demare Carrol is making 64 million to shoott 3's and play good defense, and Ben Simmons might be unplayable at the next level. how is that good?

It's an interesting discussion to be had, what kind of game do we want to see.

It's not as simple as saying "Oh just learn to shoot".. because it wasn't always a requirement that your 6'9" power forward had to also be a good shooter.. but nowadays, if he can't stretch the floor, you're at a distinct disadvantage.

There's nothing stopping players for playing like that.. or teams fielding a more old school, traditional lineup, but when you match up against a team that can shoot the 3 ball 1-4, stretch the floor, and push the pace, you cannot trot out those old school kind of lineups. And that's the transition we've seen in recent years. I think we can all be caught up in the excitement and fun of the Warriors, Steph, and similar style of play, but like Osh said, it leaves a lot of talented and capable players on the outside looking in.

I don't want to live in a world where Josh Smith isn't taking stupid, ill advised threes.

When the Blake Griffin drama was happening, I thought "could the raptors get him?".

Then I thought well he can't shoot 3's or protect the rim, so would we really be better with him?

The fact that this thought would cross my mind is BAD for basketball. laugh.gif

Yea maybe I'm dumb but I don't understand the rationale behind widening the court. Seems like it would just be easier to shoot corner threes where guys like Steph and Wes Johnson never miss

you have to also move the 3 point line back and make it equal on all sides.

Moving the 3 point line back will affect everyone but Steph

Widening the court will just make it easier for dudes who can shoot to shoot from the sides, but maybe it will also benefit slashers too.

widening the court would just burn guys out even faster with more running. and it would just open the court up for faster paced teams and more fast breaks.

im not trying to stop steph. you can't.

I'm trying to bring back a variety of effetive stratgies.

the 3 point line makes it so that every team has to run spread pick and roll with 4 shooters 90% because its the only winning strategy. a league where 6'10, great ball handler passer might not be able to play because he can't shoot 3's.

Is that what we want out of baskatball a league where its better to play Demare Carrol instead of Aaron Gordon?

Did you just listen to the Bill Simmons podcast? laugh.gif

I can't disagree more with this.

Duncan and Aldridge do just fine offensively.

Blake and DeAndre consistently are parts of top regular season offenses.

No one thought AD was unplayable cause he didn't shoot 3s last year.

The problem with Simmons is that he can't and doesn't shoot FROM ANYWHERE that isn't a layup or a floater. That would be a problem in any era unless you're a Shaq type. It limits his ceiling but doesn't make him unplayable.

Put Simmons next to a stretch 5 and he's fine.

yea but the majority of deandre's scores are assited or putbacks. nobody looks at him as an offensive Juggernaut. duncan is a 5 that stays in the paint and about 8 ft.. Lamacus was money from mid range and added the 3. AD became money from midrange and added the 3. blake become money from midrange and added the 3.

I see...

Now what I don't understand is how it's bad for basketball that you have to actually learn how to play basketball in order to survive laugh.gif. There was once a bunch of slow unathletic white guys that got phased out the game. Now there will be some tall athletic unskilled goobers that get clipped out. Survival of the fittest

I remember Zach Lowe writing about this, him and people around the league fearing th game would be just a bunch of three point shooters with no much diversity team to team.

no you have to shoot 3's. Shooting 32% from 3 is good enough to justify letting them fly. is that learning to play basketball?

1. trust I know about Simmons limitations, i've been arguing in the draft rhead all year.

2. Simmons can't protect the rim, you aren't winning anything with simmons at 5.

3. you think its good that AD is shooting 3's now? You think thsts the best use of his legth, athleticism, talent?

4. The Blake Deandre is my point, the thing is a struggle, and bogs down all the time in the playoffs. and they run better without blake.

The thing is, we already know there's no way to lock Steph up.

At this point, we're just tossing around suggestions as far as what can be done to somewhat contain him.

Beating on a dead horse but there's NO WAY IN HELL he should've been unguarded those last few seconds in the OKC game, no way! Dudes thought **** was sweet and he ended up cookin' pancakes for them fools!

the game is constantly changing. Used to be a big mans game. Then a dunkers game. then big men again. then guard game. now pg and 3 point shooter game. Give it time. It'll change again. There's no rule, the game changes with the talent of the personnel.
