That's true. Overall if whiteside is your only option and he's willing to sign it's a no brainer

I don't know if the lakers will have options they are not in a position to be beggars

Oh, your GM doesn't have a habit of dumping the players he acquires in the offseason midway through the next season or immediately after its over? You mean that's just a Doc thing? Imagine that . . .

Lakers are headed for back to back 60-loss seasons.

They HAVE to at least offer Whiteside the max. As long as he doesn't get hurt, LA won't have any trouble moving him.

You forget that Kobe is gone and there are so many guys willing to live in LA. LA has a lot to offer. There will be an ambitious cat that will bite the bullet.

But fans are very short sighted these days. They want to contend after every signing and it doesn‘t work that way.

Many guys are at their all time blow off top highs and will start to fall off in skill.

YOU do not just sign any hot stock.

NT LA fans always talk about signing every FA avail. It‘s funny. lol

While la is obviously attractive, I don't believe it will yield an array of options for them. Especially if Byron Scott is still coaching

With the cap going up, I think organizational structure and winning culture trumps market these days

And the lakers have neither.

So as a Laker fan, I agree, the lakers will probably strike out and max roy hibbert because LOLOLakers.

You're probably right and I might do it if I were Mitch, but you gotta put some serious thought into bringing in that type of randomness while handing him major responsibility. Especially when you got a bunch of kids to develop at the same time.

I'd just put in some serious research before I throw him the max at 12:01. Like knowing every little detail the past 2 seasons about dude and what's really good behind closed doors. I gotta know what I might be getting myself into.

Being at that age with his skillset on the open market clearly demands a max contract, I just feel like the chances of dude finally letting out his inner Bynum increases tenfold if he rolls with the current LA situation. :lol

Good point.

Hypothetical, but let's say both Horford and Whiteside want to go to LA.

Horford's deal might be bad in year 4 or whatever, but at least you know exactly what you're getting out of him, and there's no fear he'd set back the kids' development if it all turns to ****. Not as impactful as Whiteside, not nearly as risky either.

The current Lakeshow structure just ain't the best fit IMO.

With Kobe and Ron gone next year we need to get some reliable vets to mentor these kids.

Whiteside hanging out with nick young on weekends is going to be a disaster

Loved the 2k comment so he's cool in my book but I'd be hesitant
He's kinda edgy I'll admit but Yolo was a lot crazier, not to mention frail. I think Whiteside is more mature than B was but the concerns are there, I just don't think they're totally fair

With his rep, he'll profusely be compared with short lived careers until proven otherwise but that's not a knock on him imo It's a very special thing he's been able to do

We used to do fantasy drafts and I'd go kirilenko and garrity in early rounds and dominate. Ak47 was a whiteside/ kawhi hybrid and garrity didn't ever miss

Report: NBA to announce Los Angeles will host All-Star Weekend in 2018

NBA commissioner Adam Silver is in Los Angeles on Tuesday to announce that All-Star Weekend will return to the Staples Center in 2018, according to ESPN's Arash Markazi. The NBA, Los Angeles, AEG and Staples Center issued a press release on Monday saying that there would be a "major announcement" on Tuesday before the Los Angeles Lakers host the Memphis Grizzlies, and there was little doubt as to what that's about. More than a month ago, the NBA and L.A. were reportedly close to a deal.

From USA Today's Sam Amick:

The formal announcement will come on Tuesday, with the NBA, Staples Center, AEG, and city officials sharing the task. USA TODAY Sports reported on Feb. 17 that the parties were nearing a deal and that Los Angeles was the likely location.

Indianapolis and Miami were also known to be on the league's short list of possible cities for 2018. Sacramento officials had hoped to land the 2018 event as a reward for the October opening of the Kings' Golden 1 Center in the downtown area, but have since shifted their focus to a 2019 bid.

Two things to know:

1) Neither the Lakers nor the Clippers will officially "host" All-Star Weekend -- that will be shared, just like it was in 2011 at Staples Center and in 2015 in New York.

2) Everybody around the league seems to be overjoyed about this, given how cold it was in Toronto and New York the last two years.

The 2017 All-Star Game will be held in Charlotte, and fortunately the Hornets appear to be on the rise. The big questions for 2018: Will the Clippers' core still be intact, and will the Lakers be competitive by then?

I was hoping it would be in San Francisco.. i think the super bowl showed we are more than capable of hosting big events and our party scene was insane that week . Never seen SF like that
