Brandon Knight's UK year (2011 Final Four team, lost to Kemba's UConn Huskies) is where the under-the-radar stuff with him began. He was the quietest No. 1 H.S. recruit in the nation of the past decade maybe (he was No. 1 for a long time, there was one other who overtook him for a short period of time). His long-range game complements the rest of his skillset, w/o it I don't know if he'd have the premier tools to excel. He's coming into his own and is a very good player.

I don't disagree, but IIRC, Kyrie was very good at the Worlds two years ago, so I would assume that would keep him in the competition.

Olympic starters were pretty much set.

PG: Cp3

WF: KD

Russ typically comes off the bench like wade in 08...and is used for defense and energy. He picks up 94ft.

One of the main reasons I'm disappointed in Westbrook as a defender is I've seen him lock in before. He'd rather gamble, reach and not pay attention though.

I'd rather see
Curry
Klay
Kawhi
Bron
Draymond.

Or go megadeath with KD instead of kawhi

It's simple. Defense won't get you on SportsCenter. Or the big check. That energy is better used for scoring.

Phil likes big guards, send MCW to NY for Calderon

Cousins could conceivably start at the Olympics

Does buddy play with the ball in his hands a lot? JJ and rip seem to have always be a adept off screens

It's a big difference in changing your mindset
post #78129 of 93193
Not the type of shooter over his career that JJ was, look at Hield's percentages in Fr./So. years. You can say that doesn't matter but ultimately it's a likely indicator he's not nearly the shooter that Redick was then at Duke before being drafted and is now. As in if you don't have that length of extended efficiency you're going to most likely prove to us in the future that your top-level as a shooter is not near Redick's. The efficiency has not ALWAYS been there for Buddy like the attempts have been.

Hield usually gets the ball out on the wing late in the clock, or starts his penetration/step-back stuff off designed off-ball screens. Simple passes that get to him so he's creating for himself typically or using the gap created by the screen. The set ups he's getting aren't overly terrific, he's more adept at carving out space against his defender than Redick, even with Redick being underrated in that regard and as a dribbler.

And if you want to do it like JJ does -- you have to be pretty damn committed to conditioning. Not saying Buddy isn't; I honestly have no idea. But I know JJ puts a ton of work in to be able to be constantly moving like he is.

Feel the same way .Still mad the Pistons gave up on him so early.

Yeah, felt way premature with the investment in Knight being a top-10 selection and a few years later he's being dealt where the return doesn't overwhelm you. I was surprised too.

Buddy uses screens beautifully. He's not adept with the ball in his hands...but he can make plays coming off screens or going to the basket downhill off of screens. I don't believe he's the level of shooter that JJ is....but he can shoot the rock flat out. High 30s to low 40s 3pt shooter in the league. Which is still damn good. JJ just on another planet as a shooter that's only inhabited by Steph, Kyle and Klay.

Rip was crazy about his conditioning too. I remember there being several specials/articles on it.

JJ, Rip, Kyle, Ray.....all those guys are crazy about conditioning.

What's missed is their footwork though. The ability to stop on the dime going full speed, plant and rise up from many different angles is extremely tough.

im like 97.8695% sure that the basketball gods won't allow someone named Buddy Hield to be better than an average basketball player in the NBA.

Incredibly tough. It's a completely different skill than just spotting up in the corner waiting on kickouts.

Chris Paul was saying how he routinely beats JJ in standstill, catch & shoot contests. But it's completely different story if there's any movement involved laugh.gif

Russ, Steph and Kyrie are all in the running too still. This way, CP doesn't have to worry about getting beaten out for a spot.

Oh he was a lock. Him melo wade I think and lebron were for sure locks. For loyalty and seniority purposes

Wall can't shoot...no way he's making the Olympic team.

Same fate as Rondo (when he was in his prime).
