He does ZERO show prep.

In addition, I can't stand the TNT crew (aside from Ernie) commenting on college hoops.
Listen to the SI media podcast with Ernie; Charles, Kenny and Shaq do zero prep because it yields the best and genuine conversations.

Bill Walton is a god. I cherish the years he worked for the Clippers and was doing games with Ralph Lawler. Hearing the Big Redhead talk about the "greatness" or Mike Olowokandi is something that cannot be duplicated. LOL.

Shaq was on ESPN LA yesterday and he said Inside the NBA producers keeps them out of production meetings on purpose for that same reason you mentioned.

Show prep as a group is one thing. You don't want to know what the other person is gonna say. It's a whole other thing to barely watch games and not know anything about what's going on.

Unfortunately, it only really works for the parts of the show when they're NOT actually analyzing basketball. And that's fine. But part of what they are there for is to analyze the games and, in my opinion, the lack of prep really shows, especially for Barkley. Its largely why I don't watch inside anymore.

i mean, that makes snese to a point, genuine conversation is good television. You get real opinions. But only when the person with the opinion is quick enough to think on their feet and put their ideas into strong, cohesive, thought out statements. Turrible is a fail.

You don't need to know your cohorts opinions to form your own. You do however need to go over the material that is to be discussed. You can't just freestyle your whole album b. you aint biggie.

Couldnt agree more. Theres no real analysis ever. When they do highlights from other games and Ernie is trying to say whats going on shaq and barkley are just laughing or telling jokes the whole time. Its annoying and artificial feeling most of the time. Ive been done with it.

I think it's an excuse to be honest but it's still entertaining... you shouldn't have a scripted show in between the parts where you're analyzing basketball because then there I agree, it'd be too mechanical, rigid.

But they each should be doing their show prep in isolation, about the NBA before they even arrive at the studio that night, because in totality those two games on TNT - they're watching in real time - so they can all react in real time but the other 26 NBA teams should be prepped for that day individually by all of them. The natural conversations will then happen as they're all doing it individually so they're not anticipating subjects, but the free-flowing, natural conversations would then be funny and entertaining but also well-informed, most notably up-to-date/up-to-the-minute of what's going on in the league. And not that I'm upset or something because it's entertaining for sure, but sometimes Chuck throws out a take that's two weeks past its expiration. From a philosophical standpoint he can actually make some fair points but you have to meld that with the latest news/happenings around the league imo.

Sometimes folks just need to move on. Can't imagine having to apologize for every said or done that was wrong in the past. Guess it helps not being a public figure has everything documented...lol.

It was stupid when he said it and still is. To assume he still feels that way though...

what would make you think he doesnt though? He adapted, realized publicly saying those things would be a bad idea career wise. Law of survival. What would make someone that hates urban players and urban style of ball, suddenly like it? A paycheck.

What if he hadn't inserted color into this?

OR...

What if he had inserted color, but it was along these lines: "I had this white urban kid show up for open tryouts the other day. Just completely ruined every game he was in. I took 2 walk-ons invitations to join the team this summer, these 2 black guys who obviously had an infinite knowledge of the game and seemed to have an extremely insane work ethic."

Before you respond with, "But he didn't say that", understand that I know he didn't say that. He said what he said.

That's why I'm asking "What if." I'm curious of your thoughts on statements like his that don't mention race, or statements that do mention race but it's throwing shade at the 'white' direction and bigging up the 'black' direction.

I have a huge problem with what he said, for the record. This is just a response to spark discussion.

He was on LA radio last week saying he had back surgery 6 years ago and is healthier than ever.

Not sure why he doesn't do NBA games. I know he wrote a couple books recently.

"Get over it" - soychulo

If only things worked out that way, right? Would make the world a lot more comfortable for some people.

I was surprised at those quotes from Hubie. He never gave me that type of vibe through his commentary nor have I ever heard anyone bring it up.

Your assumption comment was weird. The **** do you know?

He originally stopped because of health reasons. I think he was having major back problems, so travelling was a big problem for him. It is my understanding that he's feeling better now, but he probably just doesn't want to put the effort into it.

He does occasional commentating though. I think he did a few Kings games last year. And was doing the UCLA basketball radio broadcasts this year.

***Edit. Sorry for the overkill on the Walton responses. LOL.

So like if he had just left race out completely? 'Problem is these urban kids. Southern kids are alright'

like that?

Society conditions us, or at least at that time to hear urban and think 'black', so it still would've been kind of sus. But it would've been light.

By today, urban is anything not rural. So the cities and suburbs. You're getting tons of demographics cooked up in there, i.e. black, white, hispanic, asian, etc. Then you dont have to focus on any one color and just think about what he is trying to get across, city kids play different than country kids. But that's only by today's standards.

He legit was saying these street, hood black dudes are ruining the game. The country 'okay suh, yes suh' hoopers are tolerable, but all these street cats want to do is and-1 moves. Urban in his phrase meant hood, ghetto, not suburbs and country.
