I know damn well you got banned for making racist *** Obama jokes in some General thread. Talking about monkeys or whatever. That's one of the reasons I don't find your little schtick amusing. You already showed what you're all about.

So of course those Hubie comments won't mean **** to a **** head.

What Hubie said was wrong. Y'all know how I feel about them hiding behind coded words for us etc etc. On the other hand...he could've possibly grown from 40 years ago. Other than that article (which is a good read. Gives you an inside look at the NBA during the 70s)....nothing Hubie has done in the past 20 years has led me to believe he still thinks with that mentality. I'd like if he addresses it some point. But I can understand if he won't. It's not widely known.

His commentary is also always on point. That miss a layup on one end...and the other team will score in 5 seconds analysis is 100% on point. For an old dude, he knows his basic analytics...and matches them with the eye test. He calls good games. And him calling JJ Redick "Ridick" gets me every time laugh.gif.

Great post, Wavy. Repped.

I agree with what you said. No excusing what Hubie said, but I think we have to at least entertain the possibility he no longer thinks like that.

where the hell was this outrage for the past 30 yrs with hubie. when this came out in 79, were ya mad then? i might be dating myself, but i dont remember people discussing this even though it was published already. i remember that quote growing up, but nobody was up in arms about it.
dont get me wrong, what hubie said was bad.

He actually talked recently about why he was so hated in college. I think he was on Dan Patrick's radio show. Basically, he said a lot of people hate Duke no matter what. So, you go into opposing arenas and people are already coming at you. So, as JJ said, its a "fight or flight" situation and he chose fight, which caused him to be an *** hole a lot of time. laugh.gif

At least he's owning it now.

I can see why these comments may be suitable for delayed outrage...

It's the stuff like from CBB writers and Twitter where they go, 'YOU GUYS: Texas A&M's 12 points in 45 seconds is the greatest comeback in NCAA tournament history.' and damn, if you were on Twitter when the game was on, barely anyone was watching that game even. It was one of four games late on a Sunday night and the delayed hyperbole when most didn't even realize what it was in the moment / Twitter was vacant almost then until double OT, then you don't need to act like it was the greatest thing of all time and we were all witnesses.'

But actual real-life comments that make sweeping assumptions or determinations of a person based on what, their demeanor not aligning with what his ideals would side with so we'll date it back to their upbringings and urbanized communities as a whole for why this person isn't doing what I like. It's strange trying to handle and dole out punishment for ignorance that's unaware of its own misgivings.

Barkley is the epitome of someone who got way too comfortable at his job and doesn't find ways to bring value to it anymore.

If you're talking to me, I've already said multiple times I never seen those quotes before. Was straight up surprised to read them. There was no context so I have no clue when he said it or anything like that. It's like waking up tomorrow and reading some old quotes from Mister Rogers saying some wild ****.

Maybe @WavyCrocket is right and I'd like to think so. I hope he doesn't think that way anymore. I always had respect for Hubie and appreciate his analysis of the game. Even defended him on here a couple times throughout the years.

Then again, I've only ever known Hubie as an old *** dude and old *** dudes are usually stuck in their ways. Who knows.

I'm just shocked it came from him and no one in the current media ever brought it up. Like a Deadspin or one of those outlets.

And my main issue is with the "get over it, no big deal" type commentary from other folks.

He does occasional commentating though. I think he did a few Kings games last year. And was doing the UCLA basketball radio broadcasts this year.

***Edit. Sorry for the overkill on the Walton responses. LOL.

this is the last time we had Bill Walton :lol

Charles Barkley has been on TNT going on 16 years now and i still believe he has something in the tank but even he has contemplated moving on from the show.

When he's on ESPN in small doses he's cool. I wouldn't be too surprised if turner shakes things up next season and beyond.

- Bill Walton is a national treasure when it comes to basketball commentary. I enjoy any telecast that he's a part of

- It's sad but Inside The NBA really has jumped the shark. Can count on one hand how many times I've watched them this year. It gets so cringe to me when they try and talk basketball, especially shaq and chuck. Would be better off having their own show discussing anything BUT basketball. Srs.

- Bring GP, Cwebb, and Ahmad back. That was a fun trio to watch on NBATV. Genius level chemistry with those three.

- No Hot Route Slander shall be tolerated.

- Hubie Brown is dope.

Jabari Parker has the 8th most dunks in the league, and is converting them at a 92% clip.

This is after coming off an ACL surgery. So much for him being, fat, slow, and not explosive laugh.gif.

Ive watched 90% of bucks games this year. That dude can fly. I was shocked. He totally rebuilt his body after that tear and a full off season healthy will do wonders for his jumper. His first step is absolutely explosive and will be even better if he gets that jumper to respectable status
