There's so much hair splitting to me that goes on between Michael/Kareem/Wilt/Lebron/Oscar/Magic/Bird etc. that to elevate one in the fashion of retiring a number of their's league wide is a bit much and totally unnecessary.

Never understood this either, you have the best nutritionists, trainers, physicians, dieticians, etc.,that most time the team pays for, in the world. Who are paid to keep MILLION dollar people in tip top shape. And to see them show up every year overweight is pure nonsense.

To be fair some guys just have straight up bad genes, you'll meet 43 year ols post menopausel women who carry less fat in their arms than Jabari Parki and Jarred Sullinger. Sometimes it's just bad luck.

Allen Iverson made a huge impact on the NBA and individuals who watched the NBA. He basically changed the game from a style perspective.

Does that make him the GOAT?

Classic NT logic.

Completely ignore the ramifications of a comment, make a surface level analogy and think you just proved a point.

Good job

Seriously, I don't get what being popular or whatever has to do with if you being the greatest player. IMO, it should ONLY be what you have done on the court.

Now, if we're talking about hall of fame or whatever, than yes, popularity should factor in because that person left a revolutionary mark on the game.

Nobody's arguing that Magic and Bird saved the league. But MJ built upon that and took it to new heights.

Hey, you're the one that brought up reasons outside of what happens on the court. If that's considered a factor, then some players like Iverson should deserve more recognition as one of the best players of all-time. I don't have him ranked high like that, but I also don't factor in the intangibles when judging a player's greatness off his skillset.

Yeah except the conversation never started based solely on ones skill set.

You dudes came in here with the "other guys were great too" argument and tried to structure that around ONLY basketball.

Transcendent athletes usually leave a mark that extend beyond their physical abilities.

Luke Walton is officially 0-0, the NBA has clarified

"I think it's ridiculous," Kerr told ESPN.com last week when asked about getting all of Walton's wins. "I'm sitting in the locker room and watching the games on TV, and I'm not even traveling to most of the road games. Luke's doing all the work with the rest of the staff. Luke is (19-0) right now. I'm not. So it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, to be honest with you. I don't even understand it."

full on ****** ... how does this even make sense from the NBA

Since its his last season, I'd like to see Kobe hit us with a little extra variety with his kicks. Like that year after his Adidas contract expired and he was wearing all kinds of stuff - Jordans, Questions, etc. But this time, he can just go through his whole Nike signature line (except maybe the 7s, those were weak). Maybe some 2K4s and 2K5s. Do it, Kobe.

This makes it worse

Walton remains eligible for NBA Coach of the Month when the honor is announced Tuesday.

The NBA said any head coach, interim head coach or acting head coach is eligible to be recognized with league coaching awards.
