NBA is more competitive right now than it was then. Too much expansion ruined everything. Everyone remembers the cream of the crop, but nobody remembers the dog crap that came along with it. There was a lot of slow, awful basketball during that second three-peat. The '97 and '98 seasons were the second and third slowest seasons in NBA history (only the '99 lockout season was worse). It was practically a funeral dirge.
