What could Gilbert have done, not give LeBron what he wanted? When the inmates weren't running the asylum Irving was leading CLE to the lottery. Gilbert's only option was either lose Irving eventually because the Cavs were headed nowhere and continue to miss out on free agents or roll out the red carpet for LeBron and go with that.

At least Gilbert is making more money now with the Playoff and Finals appearances. Lesser of two evils.
now that i think about this is true. cleveland really has/had no choice, i guess the money aspect . i mean its not like dan gilbert isnt a billionaire already right.

Lets be real. Lebby doesn't even have a ring yet. He got a lock out asterisk and a ray allen saved his *** asterisk. Still waiting for the 1st. :D

Who knows what was said in that hotel room meeting when Lebron decided to come back to Cleveland? It's documented how much of a problem things were behind the scenes in Lebron's first run with the Cavs. This is part of the reason for the vitriol behind Dan Gilbert's comic sans letter. Dude gave him EVERYTHING he wanted and then he pretty much ripped the hearts out of everyone associated with that franchise and the city when he left.

When Lebron went to Miami, he said all the right things. He knew his "Decision" was a complete debacle and he even alluded to wishing he handled things a bit differently. The Lebron we saw in Miami was a more "mature" version of the man he was in Cleveland.

Skip ahead to the hotel room meeting when he was a free agent, we don't know what was said...but I'm going to assume that both men agreed that things would be done differently.

From the outside looking in, it was easy to see that this whole thing had the potential to blow up in the faces of all involved. Marketing and business reasons, yea...the pockets of both Lebron and Gilbert stood to get even fatter with the return of King James to Cleveland. However, there was actual basketball to be played.

When you factor in Lebron association with Rich Paul/Klutch (and the representation of CURRENT members of the Cavs), this creates a huge conflict of interest. After reading the #WojBomb last night, NOTHING has changed behind the scenes in Cleveland. Lebron is the most powerful person in the organization and that even goes beyond Dan Gilbert. Case in point, look at the Tristian Thompson situation. Lebron sending not-so subliminal messages during the negotiation process...and guess what? Lebron and his camp got EXACTLY what they wanted in the THomposon deal. Goes to show the pull he has, because everyone knows that Thompson is grossly overpaid and not worth a fraction of what he's getting on his contract. Yup...that's a Paul/Klutch client.

Gilbert didn't want to pay a certain amount, and he ended up doing so because Lebron has a stranglehold on that organization. It's not a good working dynamic and I guarantee that if Kevin Love goes elsewhere, he'll thrive. That environment in Cleveland is toxic and it's being run by a guy (Lebron) who has ZERO idea of how to construct a roster or put together a coaching staff. I mean, Mark Jackson???

I like Lebron...he's one of my favorite players to watch. However, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't enjoying every second of this trainwreck going on. This team won't amount to **** for the foreseeable future.

My whole thing is that did Lebron ever give Blatt a chance? I mean he went on his 2 week hiatus or whatever last season and left Blatt to pick up pieces. What player does that? Especially one that just came off of a Finals *** whooping like he did. He never humbled himself and his move to Cleveland was always about business than it was about redemption. I'm just mad it took me this long to really see through that :smh:

That's how Gilbert has to look at it. No free agent wanted to come to CLE. Your star player would have left most likely. The only upside at this point for Gilbert is financial. Billionaires don't become billionaires because they're satisfied with the money they've made. I'm sure winning was his number one goal but I'd rather lose making as much as I can as opposed to the alternative. Empty seats, merchandise sales low and no extra postseason games in CLE.

Gilbert was in a tough spot with LeBron because of how it ended the first time and he didn't want to be the reason LeBron didn't come back. How often does the worlds best player in any sport want to play in CLE? Gilbert had to do whatever he could to close that deal.

Serious question....

What about him at 17 did you not like?[
his game...... never was a fan .hes never been entertaining to me.

i hated his game but the attitude that later developed and his oncourt persona and how he carried himself. outside of the game of basketball i dont care what nba players do.

i hated iverson game as well but never  hated iverson. how he carried himself on the court , he was a real dude.

, i really didnt hate him till that chosen one crap and i saw the sense of entitlement that he carried. Everything was given to him before he earned it. hated that ish.

Kevin Love won't thrive anywhere. Even in Minnesota, he was the leading scorer in the first 36 minutes of the game, #41 in the 4th quarter. The epitome of an empty stats guy.

yeah its hard as a fan to look at it from ownership perspective but you right.

The Warriors fans always "supporting" the team is one of the funniest lies that's been going on for a while now. Ignore the fact that they were near the bottom of the league in attendance and attendance % year after year prior to their playoff appearance. I'm schleep doe.

I'll begin with the 90's since I moved to the Bay Area from Chicago in the early 90's.

From 1989-90 season through the 1996-97 season, they averaged a sellout. When the coliseum got re-done and increased seating capacity, yes it took some years to get close to averaging a sell out.

It dipped in 97-98, which had a team that went 19-63 and had the likes of Dampier, Tony Delk, Donyell Marshall, Felton Specer, Joe Smith, and most important, Spree choking out the coach

After the lockout year, they had increased averages and beginning in the mid-2000's, again featuring teams that didn't amount to much, they were averaging over 18,000

The fact they could get even 10,000 people to go to these games with some of these rosters and a terrible ownership actually shows the support they've had over the years. Have they increased in popularity? Absolutely, however, since they're the only franchise in the greater Bay Area, they've been supported quite well over the years relative to the **** product they've offered

You mean indirectly?
if the leader and main man doesnt respect or listen  to the coach you think anyone else is?  they going to follow and do as lebron does.
EXACTLY! It kinda like a HS basketball team. If the star senior runs drills hard and respects the coach's plays and calls, the rest of the team will follow. If the star senior walks off when the coach is talking, or plays his own style during games, the other players will tune out the coach too.

This is also the reason Byron still has some control with the Lakers; Kobe respects him. The minute Kobe doesn't Swaggy, D. Lo, & Randle will do their own thing.

Repped. Great points. Cereal. I started in 2000, I believe, because that was as far as the data went.

But just like any other franchise, when they are bad, they have a difficult time selling tickets. When they're entertaining/good they sell a lot. There's a misconception that they've been one of the top in attendance every year.

Long time coming: End comes for David Blatt's bumpy Cavs tenure

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/14629892/nba-final-unraveling-david-blatt

Why David Blatt was fired and why Cleveland Cavaliers believe Tyronn Lue is the right man for the job

http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2016/01/why_david_blatt_got_fired_and.html

Picture being painted is Blatt had no accountability of the stars, didn't have the nuances of the NBA games and the roster didn't believe in him led to his firing. Don't think LeBron was demanding for Blatt to be fired.

Once James' camp realized that Jackson would never be considered as coach – nor would Lue leave his representation to join Klutch Sports agency, despite overtures – Lue became a compromise choice for James' group, sources said. They started pushing for Lue to replace Blatt last season, and grew louder in those calls in recent days and weeks.
