There have been some ups and some downs, along with an acknowledgment from Lakers Coach Byron Scott that Russell is slightly behind where Scott hoped he would be at this point.

“I probably thought he’d be a little further,” Scott said Saturday as the Lakers prepared to play San Antonio. “But ... 19 years old. I always take that into consideration. Every time I try to chastise him about something or get mad at him about something, I always go right back to, ‘You know what? Coach, he’s 19. He’s still a kid, he’s still learning, he’s still trying to figure out what this league is all about.’ ”

“He’s not old enough for me to have a meeting with him to discuss ‘What does he think?’ ” Scott said.

“He’s such a kid. I told him the other day, ‘You’re 19 but sometimes I think you’re 14.’ And then sometimes I say, ‘You’re 19 but sometimes, like today, you’re 22, 23.’ We have a real playful relationship because he’s such a playful kid. At practice he has fun until we say, ‘All right, let’s get serious,' because it’s practice. Shoot-around is the same thing. But you can’t help but just smile and like the kid.”

welp.

Meanwhile in Denver...

Michael Malone says he encourages Mudiay to play through and learn from his mistakes. How about that...

Malone is such a good coach for a young team like Denver.

meanwhile in NY, Derek Fisher is preaching the development of the young guys over wins while Vujacic is getting Grant's minutes & Afflalo is taking the last shot instead of Porzingis.

earned not given is the right way.

Maybe, but with Byron, he says that, but isn't actually doing that. DLo and Randle can play well, but don't always get rewarded with more minutes. He just seems kind of arbitrary with the way he manages the young guys' minutes.

 true.

He's doing it. Randle's playing 32+ minutes in the 2gms since February began. Russell's matching his season high average in those two games as well.

Rodney Hood's shooting over 36% from three on the season and 88% at the line (where he could get to more). 46% from 3 in Jan. If I'm another team I try to grab him at the deadline if he's at all available. He's doing this **** as a perimeter-oriented scorer, even though he's being set up for those looks by Trey Burke and Raul ******* Neto.

Man, why you gotta bring in numbers? It's more fun to just call Byron a dumb ***.

Give the team getting intentionally fouled the option to shoot the free throws or inbound the ball. Situation resolved.

Every foul after 15 total team fouls is a 3 shot foul.

That way the skill of FT shooting is still important.

A triple bonus if you will.

Hood has probably been the second most valuable Jazz player this year after Hayward. No way he's getting dealt anytime soon.

And yes, Byron Scott is a stubborn, incompetent jackass. I said this before the Lakers even hired him how much of a fail it was going to be.

you can tell from these responses who has never played organized competitive ball. awww you arent entertained pumpkin? **** your enjoyment mami, we tryna win games. by any means necessary. you think it's petty. so what. it works. art of war. exploit your opponents weakness. So you're boxing and you see a cut over that right eye, you just gonna leave it alone because you think the audience will think less of you? Or are you going to attack that eye every chance you get because you know eventually there is a breaking point? Same in basketball. There's more at play than you think. It's not about necessary fouling you so you don't score. It's a chess move forcing you to change your lineup and take that player out. It's the arrogance or naivete of the coach that leaves the player in thinking shots will fall. He ignores the law of averages. It's his fault the sequence goes on so long. How do you blame the one employing the strategy? if a team gets the W, does it have small print under it like ('yea they won, but...hack-a-jordan is wack man')...I doubt it.

How do you, and others, keep missing the point the NBA has a long history of changing rules because one player/teams are exploiting existing rules?

-24 second shot clock (awww dont like the other team playing keep away for minutes at a time? Steal the ball mami)

-5 seconds back to the basket (can't stop Barkley from backing you down mami? Hit the weight room)

-Can't cross the FT Line until after the ball hits the rim (Tired of wilt grabbing his own boards? sorry mami, get some ankle weights and get your vert up)

-defensive/offensive 3 seconds in the paint (not big rnough to score/stop the big man inside? Sorry mami, grow more)

-3 pt line (aww mami Game not exciting enough for you? Well deal with it. Every bucket is still 2 pts)
