Mike realized he didn't have it anymore and changed his game. I think Kobe's ego will prevent him from doing that. I honestly think Kobe could play and be effective another 2-3 years if he took a secondary/third role and helped the young guys develop on the Lakers or went to a contender. Agree. Plus, everyone knows its coming and, honestly, thinks it should happen. Makes it less of story. Not like MJ's first retirement when he left the game in his prime. Or when Lebbywinks left Cleveland for Miami. That was unexpected and a bigger deal because he was ditching his "home town" team.

Kobe hanging it up after 20 years in the league will definitely be acknowledged, but it won't be an all-consuming story on all media outlets.

I agree. Mike played much closer to the basket the older he got. I think Kobe could still be effective if he did the same thing. Scott needs to have Kobe work off the ball on the baseline and at the elbow. His days of destroying dudes on isos are over.
