The NBA rejected the Grizz intention to change the team name to the Memphis Express. Memphis is the home to FedEx. It was rejected on the grounds of having a sponsor's name as part of a team name.

I'm glad they rejected that.

Interesting probably would have ended up using a train logo like the default create a team logo in 2K though.
 
Didn't they change it to Wizards after the DC snipers? Can't even blame them :lol:

There's a difference between names that make no sense and names that are just dumb. The Thunder is a dumb name. The Pelicans actually makes sense.

The ones that really make zero sense are the Lakers (originally from the Land of 10,000 Lakes) and the Jazz (originally from New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz). Somehow, the Rockets lucked into the perfect name because they were originally the San Diego Rockets, and moved to Houston where NASA's Mission Control is.

What would you even changevthe Lakers to? The Stars makes since but is boring as hell. There's no Kings in Sacramento just cows.

They switched to the Wizards in 1997. The DC snipers were in 2002.

It was because Abe Pollins son was gunned down. The reason was valid without argument. I just like Bullets better.

Damn thats just as horrible :smh:. Yea the name had to go but I feel you guys. Something more appropriate referencing the capital status of DC would've been better than Wizards :lol:
