Size, length, athleticism, instinct and his dedication to playing great defense.

Bruh through 5 games Wall is still 8th in blocks. He's the only guard 1-38 in that category. The first SF that appears is KD at 17. He's also 2nd in steals currently.

Defensive player of the year candidate?

If those numbers hold up, more-or-less, throughout the year and the Wiz are in the top half of the East, yes.

Clips as a team did a good job on Steph until the last few minutes of the 4th though. You gotta communicate and hand Steph off on screens.

Yep. That's what ultimately lost the game for us. The missed FTs by CP and Pierce hurt, but it was the defensive lapses that killed us. DJ dropped back off of Steph on the screens too many times. It was pretty frustrating to watch, TBH.

Russ' defense is overrated in the same sense as Deandre Jordan's.

Good counting stats. Athletic freaks. Tons of defensive potentia.....but ultimately above average defenders. Their lack of focus and discipline keeps them from becoming truly good defenders.

When I think about the fact that PG is the deepest, most offensively talented position in the league right now, seems only logical that a PG who does a great job defending his position every night and also puts up other good defensive stats, like steals and blocks, should be in the DPOY convo.

Yeah, its true that, until further notice, the only team in the East right now that looks like a legit championship contender is Cleveland. But lets be real, at this point, there don't look like there are too many real title threats in the West right now either. GSW is clear cut. Maybe the Clippers and Spurs. OKC is hard to figure right now. Houston has been struggling. Memphis isn't a contender.
