Pick up ball question - how do you deal with jump/held ball situations where you play? My whole life, I've been playing that whatever team calls "first" quickest, gets the ball. Did that the other day playing with mostly teens and got looked at like I was ******* ******ed. Is that not a thing anymore?

Still play "First" but sometimes they make that person shoot for it, if he misses they get the next "jump ball"

Pick up game done changed though, started playing again, and people were calling moving screens and illegal screens

Not really a fan of "first". Usually it was just shoot for it. Growing up in both Oregon and Cali I've experienced "first" a few times but mostly it was shoot a three for it

never heard of "first"

when i play, defense shoots a 3 from the top of the key. make it take it.

Shooting for it makes sense. But the dudes I was playing with seemed like they were just going to let the two guys struggle over the ball until someone came up with it.

Jesus people these days. That would lead to so many fights

eventually during high school and after if I ever played any pickup outside of organized ball it really wasn't that big a deal. Just let the other team have it if anything, not worth the drama

Happened to me a few times where i've come down with a rebound and some guy just comes in and gets me to the floor and rips it from me. People just start rolling around until someone got it. I'm not the biggest guy, so this happened a few times, I just started saying **** it and started hip checking and throwing short elbows down low. Needless to say, this is how fights start. Lucky for me its usually between friends, but I mean I don't really care when i'm in the moment.

Bottom Line, the shoot for should be the consensus way to settle a jump ball.

Man I straight picked a little ***** up while he was holding and attached to the ball and dragged him out of bounds.

some dude in college tried to tie me up and force a jumpball call, but I wrested it away and in the progress tossed him to the ground.

The guy was annoying as hell, a pest on the court, and I wasn't sure if I had my dribble or not still so I just straight threw the ball at him dodgeball style while he was on the ground still and I picked it back up, decided I didn't want to dribble anyways and passed the ball to a teammate.

I regret nothing.

Street ball and pick up ball must be two different things then.

There is no jump ball when we play. That's for more organized games. Tournaments and ****.

Held ball as in 2 or more ppl are holding on to the ball wrestling it away from each other just has to play itself out until somebody clearly has possession of the ball and passes it to a teammate. It'll go on like a fumble in football. However, all that ***** boy NBA **** where when that happens dudes feel free to jump on each other and foul like crazy does not fly. That's asking for a fight.

All other calls that can't be agreed upon have to be dealt with a quick shootout at the free throw line; first to miss after a make is wrong about the call.
This Open Court marathon is great. :pimp:

Show brings insight and be having me rolling
