I give him credit because he's effective as hell with it, but Harden's game is so unnatural to me. Like, how did he even come up with some of the stuff he does? It would never occur to me when playing to try and lock up my defenders arm with mine to make it look like he's fouling me, when I'm really the one creating the contact. Weird.

Harden's foul-drawing tactics were born in OKC. Specifically the driving and locking defenders arm up.

That move is derivative from KD's rip thru move he used to do. Harden adapted it. Instead of ripping thru from a standstill triple threat shooting position, Harden does it while driving. Same technique.

Sam Cassell was arm locking 20 years ago. This isn't new

I feel like Harden has taken it to a new level. On same plays the only thing he's thinking about doing is drawing a foul. In the past, guys did those things more incidentally, when they were actually trying to score.

Lou williams does the same thing. He'll drive to his left, pull up for a shot and basically hook the defender's arm on the way up. He'll always do it in the perfect position on the left wing with the near sideline ref behind him so he can't really see what's happened, the far sideline ref can't see because the defender's back is to him and it probably looks like a legit foul from the baseline ref's angle. It's super cheese and Hella lame but it's kinda funny when it's the guy on your team getting away with it :\

nah. Dude is a threat to score every time he attempts a basket. He's coming downhill drawing fouls and he's big/strong for a 2. Y'all can be mad about it, but it's not fair to say it's solely to draw a foul. For every "draw foul attempt" there's a ref missing a slapped arm, grabbed arm. Y'all just don't like his unorthodox game

Uhh yes you can. It's hilariously blatant that he's not attempting to score when he fails to draw the foul. Comically, you can't miss it if you're blind, blatant.

It's to the point where he'd blow an easily make-able basket because of it.

i been watching every Rockets game twice for like 3 years. He's a threat to score the ball every.single.time. Trying to draw a foul and score are not mutually exclusive concepts

He does plenty of "baiting", but if you aren't reaching or getting caught slipping and trying to evade the foul (which plenty do) he's going to attempt to score on you

Gotta blame the refs for constantly calling it. Players are going to abuse things they know they can get away with. Doesn't make it right of course but refs have the power to stop it if they wanted.

I call it…tactically putting in work, ha :smokin
i know it's annoying to watch though

sometimes the players gotta take blame for playing dumb defense. Can't have these trash defenders out there expecting to get calls. There are good high IQ defenders in the league that give Beard fits.

I'm sure if I look hard enough I can find vids of Harden taking Swan dives with the ball with no one touching him. Not even looking at the basket in those instances.

Honestly, refs gotta know people's reputations just like we do. That arm lock technique should be an automatic offensive foul by now smh

Are you guys serious?

So Harden gets you off balance and you reach he can't pull the ball through and get a foul call? What?

he did this stuff at ASU, as well, I think it comes more from watching Manu who did this stuff as well.

People have been doing this forever, I rememebr Tracy McGrady doing it in Toronto.

The viewer bias would be people who use anomalies when being critical of Harden. People who actually watch the games would see how many times he gets bumped and swiped which leads to the whistles he gets. Same thing as the "Harden doesn't play defense" notion, when he very well made a huge leap on the defensive end from '13 to '14. Yet people who watch maybe 3 Rockets games a year will conveniently see the plays where he waits for the opponent to run by and swipes at them, and are all "zzzzzOMG HE HE HE CAN'T P-P-PLAY DEFENSE".

The Rockets fan calling me bias. Hahaha.

Look, if you want to say he's good at drawing contact, I'll agree with you. But if you say he's looking to score Everytime he attempts to draw a foul, I'm sorry - that bs. Plain and simple.

If somone pump fakes you and they jump into you, and you shoot to draw the foul should that be banned as well?

should all foul drawing maneuvers be banned?

Don't be mad just because Harden is simply way way better at it than anyone else in recent history, should we eliminate the 3 point line becuase Steph Curry is too good at shooting em?

Yeah, Lou is definitely good at this stuff. He has very good timing on catching his defender with his arms down and extended, then going right into his shooting motion to draw the foul. I think it was the Denver game when he got fouled outside the 3 point line like 4 times or something.

And, yeah, I guess you tend to overlook it when the player is on your team. I'm still not sure what exactly he does, but Crawford does something to draw all those 4 point plays. I don't complain about it. :wow:
