Teams inquiring about availability of Cavs’ Timofey Mozgov

As center Timofey Mozgov recently has gone from a prominent starting role to a reserve with the Cleveland Cavaliers, several NBA teams are starting to inquire about his availability via trade, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

While the Cavaliers have expressed no interest in moving Mozgov, the 7-foot-1 center’s loss of his starting job, the franchise’s NBA-high payroll and his looming free agency could ultimately persuade Cleveland to make a deal. The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 18.

Cleveland coach David Blatt replaced Mozgov in the starting lineup with Tristan Thompson on Dec. 28. Mozgov’s minutes and production have steadily declined since, and he is averaging 4.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 11.3 minutes per game in January. Mozgov played four and a half minutes in the Cavs’ win over Washington on Monday. Mozgov’s move to the bench was strictly a basketball decision, a source told Yahoo.

Mozgov, 29, will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer and is expected to receive strong interest and a lucrative long-term deal. The Cavs’ plan is to attempt to re-sign him, but a return could be less attractive for Mozgov if his reduced role continues. Cleveland, however, does own his Bird Rights, and he is eligible for a five-year extension with the franchise. The Cavaliers have $103 million committed in salary next season. If the franchise were to sign Mozgov to a $10 million annual deal – and his value could be more on the market – it would likely cost the Cavaliers over $26 million in salary and luxury tax.

The Cavaliers acquired Mozgov for two protected 2015 first-round picks (via Oklahoma City and Memphis) from the Denver Nuggets a year ago. He averaged 10.6 points and 6.9 rebounds in 46 regular-season games for Cleveland last season. The sixth-year NBA veteran also played a strong role in the Cavaliers’ run to the NBA Finals, averaging 10.6 points and 7.3 rebounds in 20 playoff games.

facts. Dray would eat euro competition.

nah, all jokes aside, the two of them side by side would be lethal af. Dray likes playing the 5. Put bleezy at the 4. Steph at the one, kobe/wade/harden/klay at the two and bron at the 3.

Team is small, fast and lethal. Another gold medal.

I agree with you, but the thing is AD is also in the pool and has already played in one Olympics. I don't see Draymond, Blake and AD all getting selected, so my feeling is Blake will end up being the odd man out. Unless the coaching staff decides that they don't need a true C and someone like Drummond gets left out.

oh right, damn, I forgot about Dre...lol puns.

thats a tough thing to pull. AD, Dray, Dre, Blake. Wasn't Drummond at the world games though? Draymond may get left off. They do typically show loyalty to cats that were already in the fray with them.

Windhorst: Hassan Whiteside 'Absolutely Not A Heat Player'

Hassan Whiteside will be a free agent in the offseason and the Miami Heat don't own his Bird Rights.

"This is a guy who is going to get a max contract in the summer. And he's absolutely not a Heat player," said Windhorst on Zach Lowe's podcast. "His style of play, his personality, the way he goes about his business is not congruent with the way the Heat normally go about themselves.

"The Heat have a decision to make: do you ride out the season with Whiteside or do you package him with (Luol) Deng before the deadline."

 his style of play? The same style of play that has led Miami to a top 10 defense?

And he's not a heat player? Was Antoine Walker a Heat player?

****, was Shaq even a heat player? Dude said he still doesn't know how they won in '06 because he & everyone else partied so much.

Get outta here Windhorst.

I dislike the empty stats narrative, but I think Lee was an example of this. Give up enough shots individually and as a team while playing starter minutes and you're bound to get 9-10 rebounds a game.
That's fine, the point is in his prime years he would be a starter even in this "new era"

The odds of me keeping Randle this offseason in my keeper league is slim..... although having Krispy Kreme is a nice consolation

Also, Grizz and Nuggets making weird waives, picking up players from d league, etc. hopefully, this means a trade is near for both teams. Need Gallinari.

Hate to rain on your parade, but even if they get Gallo, seems like its just going to wind up another Jeff Green situation. Good fit on paper, but really won't improve the team significantly. I think Gallo is better than Green overall, at least offensively, but he's also inconsistent. But, hey, good luck if it happens.

At least Porzingis isn't a liability on defense like Randle.

Randle has ONE move, that one move isn't even effective lol. Dude tries to bully his way through the lane and throws up the most ridiculous rushed shots I have ever seen.

He's a ball stopping 4 that doesn't really provide much of anything outside of rebounding. And yea, I know he's a rookie. But there's nothing about his skill sets that makes me believe he can be a star in this league.

This really Lativa and Randle?

Lativa at least got those block shot numbers (2 vs 0.5) and the 3FG is misleading since Randle doesn't attempt very many. Lativa is good for 1 a game at least

True. He's also 7'3. Also that should be 13 double doubles for both

Draymond Green On Julius Randle: ‘Going To Be A Force To Be Reckoned With’

Quote:
Being a fan of the game, Randle’s development has been exciting for Green to watch, referring to him as a “special talent” who has the potential to make the game even better. Randle’s got the most important part down, and that’s the passion for the game.

“You can tell he’s a guy who works, so I know the sky’s the limit for him,” Green told LakersNation.com. “I think a lot of people in this day and age, don’t have just that love, that will, and that drive that continues to push them and you can just see that in him and his game and the way the he plays.”

“I think with the tools that he has, the heart that he has, the emotion that he has about the game. I think he can be a very, very special player.”

kp averages 3.6 threes a game

randle .5

kp is better than randle in every way

Still got hope for Randle while a lot have already given up on him. I don't think he's Thomas Robinson bust level yet

His strengths at least come out from time to time. He's still a rookie
