Is NOT Having Children Considered a Selfish Act?

there are some serious nihilistic views in here. Saying someone is selfish for bringing a child into the world is just as stupid as saying someone is selfish for not.

Personally, I can't wait to reproduce. It doesn't have **** to do with liking or not liking children.

And what the hell kind of person doesn't "like" children? Y'all are talking as if they're pets or some ****.
 
Those specific type of misanthropes exist man. They don't just not like children but don't want anything to do with them. Barely can bare to be around them let alone take care of one.

there should be no reason why anyone should think negatively of someone who doesn't want kids. i really don't understand why some of you are mad at that.

I'm gonna have kids. In the future when I'm ready to settle down and want kids and the woman I'm with doesn't...it's over on sight and I would call her selfish. You can say I'm the selfish one, but it's human nature....to reproduce. For anyone else that decides to not want kids, I don't care. People have many reasons to not want one but if you are withholding from your significant other and it's some corny excuse I will call you selfish.

But some of the responses in this thread is all sorts of backwards thinking. Carry on.

if a guy is making minimum wage and already has 2 kids...he should not have another kid.

if a guy has no morals he shouldn't have kids

if a guy is irresponsible

if a guy is a drug dealer he shouldn't have kids

if a guy is a rapist he shouldn't have kids

if a guy has no money or job he shouldn't have kids

Wouldn't you agree the unfit should not have kids? or are you saying it's there choice no matter what and what happens after shouldn't be taken in to consideration?

I think we should just ask the Chinese community how they deal with it.

I know I wouldn't be completely adverse to some restrictions and laws.

I'd like to see the poor get a few years ban on procreation and the rich be forced to adopt their first 3 children before they can procreate.

Of course none of this stuff would come to pass any time soon in America.

No I dont think its selfish. I dont want kids, granted im 25 and that can change. I think selfish are those who have kids for the wrong reasons (baby bonus etc) and those who have no jobs and are having children, multiple children.

See this is exactly what I was talking about in my post. Why shame the person? Its a decision that literally affects no one, and no lives will be changed now or in the future by that decision


I'm not attacking you but I would like to hear your, and others who feel the same way as you, reasoning's for why these types of people are "weirdo, soon to be lonely bastards"?
You've established they are not selfish, but How did you come to the above conclusion?
Why can't the person just be another normal member of society who has no major questionable quirks, who uses something else like their family, friends, other people or pets rather than children of their own to cope with loneliness, and whose parents were actually married when they were born?

It's human nature to do a lot of things be we are more than primitive beings in this day and age
we are no longer bound to follow our base instincts, we are intelligent enough to question them


Would you rather she sacrifice her happiness and have the child just to make you happy?
Should other people in relationships have children they never wanted just because their S.O. want one and will leave if they don't?
Is your happiness more important than hers?
She could end up resenting you and the child because its not the life she wanted, how would you feel then?
But I am glad that you would end it and not stay together in a relationship that's going nowhere. That is best for both people

Also this brings to light another problem: People don't discuss deal breakers before they enter into relationships or even get married
It would be the responsible thing to discuss children, as well as other topics, before entering into committed relationships so you don't waste each others time

I just had my first child about 6 weeks ago and its the best thing that ever happened to me.

With that being said anyone who thinks not having kids is selfish is an idiot.
 
Not having children is NOT a selfish act .... So many kids out here without parents,, or have parents who are not financial stable, you can always allocate some funds towards helping them in the futue. I have been reconsidering not having a kid lately, but if I do not have kids, I will surely place money in a separate fund to help keep the next generation afloat ...

So many have kids without a foundation. Maybe they are the selfish ones. Bringing children into the world to satisfy their self life goals, but are boot-strapped financially, and the kids grow up in hardship. Just my 2 cents.

NO its not selfish to NOT have kids. I have two little girls of my own and plan to have more, but honestly there are tons of kids running with parents who didn't really want them and who really aren't equipped to handle the responsibility.

My uncle didn't have any kids, but was a tremendous mentor to me and my brothers/ cousins growing up so its not like you can't be contributive to the development of future generations.

If any of yall are unsure about having kids then don't. Too many children are born into a raw deal that they have to climb outta and thats selfish

People dont have children for different reasons.
But for those who chose not to because they enjoy their current lifestyle, want to travel
or have certain experiences before they reproduce, that is selfish.
They are only thinking of themselves and indulging in their own desires.
It is what it is. We are all selfish in a way at times, so I hope no one who fits that build is offended.
I have 4 kids and I put them to bed as early as possible so I can chill wit my wife and do the
things I like to do versus spend more time wit them. I think thats selfish.
When they get older, they can sue me if they want. Eh, life is hard b.

That's the whole thing about choices in life. You make them for yourself and at some point you'll make the decision or not that you're ready to start making choices for another's.

Man, kind of on topic, make sure you re on the same page as your girl when it comes to kids. I am not on it for another 3-4 years, when my girl is ready haha.

Its all about perspective.
The world we live in today nurtures the attitude of self ( and that thinking of/helping others is important too, but its secondary).
Thats why some may not see it as selfish. "Its not selfish, we are supposed to fulfill our own desires."
This is why the world is in it currents state. Everyone wants to fulfill their own desires without regard to the
larger people group they are apart of; Mankind. They forget we are all intrinsically connected.
