2016 Houston Rockets Pre-Season Thread - Preseason Finale vs Spurs

Interested in how these guys come out on the road. Glad Howard will be in the lineup as well. All these wins are premium.

Team started making a run to get it under 10, then they had s turnover fest again. It's like they try to live at the perimeter, and when things go awry, they attack the paint and try to play an actual game. The def nse has played well for about 4 minutes, but now they're back down 14. The fact that most of these turnovers are unfirced is what's missing me off the most. At one point they had 9 TOs on multiple possessions. It's sickening.

Such a terrible game. 8 losses, easily 6 teams we shouldn't have lost to. Can blame McHale this time, and that only gives ammo to the loser fanbases who haven't paid attention to in the first place. Agreed with what was just said in 790, that Harden had reverted to 2012 in that he's pressing and feeling like he has to do it himself, suffering in the process.

We were supposed to have a deep bench this year, and so far, it looks trash. The overall offense is in shambles, and predictable. The defense may be the worst in the league. This needs to turn around right now, or we'll be fighting to even make the playoffs. But currently, we don't even look like an NBA team.

"From the depths of Hell, We return…" (5-8)

idk what to say, Im sure all of us are disgusted by the effort shown, except for Dwight and Thornton (early games), n one has seemed to be consistent throughout 13 games…

I love how every media personality has their own take on why the rockets suck

Funny ain't it ? And most of their takes have been wrong. It's very odd that the only people who seem to know what goes on here are Rockets fans who steadily watch the games. You would think professional journalists would have some type of insight of being in the know or whatever. Same thing with other fan-bases. I was waiting on my barber earlier, and 3 dudes (all Laker fans) were giving the same surface take on why the Rockets are playing so bad. It was like being in a real-life NBA season tread. i mean, I don't consistently watch OKC, LAL, Clips, or Cavs games, yet I know the sentiment of the fans in regard to the feelings of their coaches.

Interesting article.

Are The Houston Rockets Going To Make A Drexler-Level Trade?
usa-today-8460357.0.jpg

It would be great if something would happen like this, yet i don't know who would go and who would come. But, I do agree with the feeling that we can win with the guys we have (and don't have as far as energy). Dudes just aren't playing up to the level they're supposed to be playing.

82 game season, yet my disgust is is swifty turning into apathy 14 games in. This sucks even more being this was the Knicks at home. The Western Conference is way too tough to be falling behind like this.

Good article but that was like a once in a lifetime thing but still good read.some things about it...

That drexler trade was different. They won a title already. This team is acting like they've accomplished something. Also Dwight is probably gonna opt in since his body is breaking down. He's not getting that money elsewhere....at least I dont think

Even people that know of the Rockets dont know whats going on.

good game guys

srs question: why did Dwight sit out when you guys have the next 3 days off?

I actually think Dwight can play a lot more than he does. They just seem to be overly cautious with him anticipating the playoff run. They keep resting him assuming when can beat those teams without him. Unfortunately that hasn't really worked so far as we've mostly lost (combined with the team being in general disarray).

Bottom line is we need Dwight healthy for the playoffs, but it's looking like it's going to be harder to even get there with him resting

Rockets' Ty Lawson remains on the bench

The big offseason move by the Houston Rockets was trading four backups for Ty Lawson.

Now Lawson is a backup.

The Rockets have benched the starting point guard the past three games and it will extend to a fourth with interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff saying veteran Jason Terry will remain the starter for Wednesday’s game against Memphis.

“We like the leadership that 'Jet' brings with that first group,” Bickerstaff said after Tuesday’s practice. “Then we’ll bring those other guys in off the bench.”

This wasn’t what the Rockets expected when the decision was made to acquire Lawson.

With a need to take the ball-handling duties off James Harden, GM Daryl Morey elected to get Lawson, who controls the ball with the ability to not only create shots for himself, but others.

It just hasn’t worked out.

Harden struggled to start the season, and after three games then-coach Kevin McHale wanted him to take more control of the ball-handling duties. It was a spark to Harden, who averaged 38 points per game while earning Western Conference Player of the Week honors during a four-game win streak. And while Harden has continued his strong play -- he’s currently third in the league in scoring average -- Lawson has struggled.

He’s at career lows in shooting percentage (31.6) and points per game (4.9). Lawson has become hesitant with his outside shot and continues to struggle in catch-and-shoot opportunities.

The Rockets believed this wouldn’t be a problem for him, but it is.

Lawson is even surprised with what he’s seen this season.

“It’s definitely a different guy when you see it on tape,” he said. “Hopefully this move, this transition will get me back to my old self.”

Lawson’s old self is as a playmaker, where in 2012 he had a career-high 19.4 Player Efficiency Rating. Last season he finished third in the league in assists per game with 9.6, a career high.

This Lawson looks lost, almost as if he’s been playing in a fog.

It’s shocked him.

“It has a little bit,” he said. “You have to look at yourself, sometimes. I had to go back and look at my 2012 highlights -- did I really do this or is it a dream? I had to go back and see. It’s a little bit of an adjustment period, but I’m getting through it.”

Bringing Lawson off the bench allows Harden (89.4 touches per game) to maintain the main ball-handling responsibilities with Terry in the backcourt. When Lawson does enter the game, he can take over with a combination of different sets.

Lawson can play with Terry or Patrick Beverley in the backcourt and relieve Harden of ball-handling duties just before he gets substituted out of games.

“The best thing about him is he’s here to win,” Bickerstaff said. “So, it was an easy sacrifice for him to make. When I talked to him I told him it was not his fault. It’s not his fault we’re in this situation. He’s not the scapegoat -- we believe in him. He will continue to get his opportunities and then he’s got to take advantage of those opportunities. We know in the long run we’re going to make it where we want to go -- he’s going to be a big part of that. So, we got to get him playing to his potential, like all the guys.”
