DECATUR, Ala. - A representative from Decatur City Schools called a news conference this morning in reference to a controversial picture on social media. During the conference, Superintendent Ed Nichols read a letter of apology from the teacher involved.

Heath Morrow, a 5th-grade teacher at Chestnut Grove Elementary School, went to a private Halloween party over the weekend with his wife. Morrow and his wife dressed as Kanye West and wife Kim Kardashian.

The photo was posted to Morrow's wife's Facebook page.  Though the photo has now been taken down, it initially spread from there to other social media platforms, including other news outlets.

Nichols said the district is investigating the incident, but he wouldn't comment on the teacher's current employment status with the school.

this is who your children learn from

Do people think about what they do and the potential consequences before they do it?

I don't get why white people like him need to go as far as the face paint, as if the Kanye for President and shades weren't making it obvious enough.

I also don't get why idiots like him don't learn from the hundreds of incidents like this that cause justified outrage or the history of blackface itself

Of course they do. They donit with the plans of calling someone sensitive or say they are crying after they are called out for the nonsense

every Halloween.  How do people not get it by now, it baffles me

I was about to say this brah

Every year people get in serious trouble for black face, and people continue to do it :smh:

At this point I get more upset at the stupidity than the racism

-------

Famb really used the "I don't see color..." defense doe.

it's not that people are sensitive, it's that people are stupid and insensitive to history. We're supposed to be cool with folks dressing up as black folks as a parody for the day?

Society has become so sensitive. I see nothing wrong with it.

But his wife doe... More pics

Are you being sarcastic famb?

Not at all. I don't see him trying to be racist. I personally see them doing a theme and I do remember seeing people wearing makeup to be other races in the past with 0 issue. The problem is that we are so racially sensitive now that every little thing is racist.

It's not like he's like "I'm gonna be a black person for Halloween." They were doing a theme which I understand.

Oh you can bet he was talking like a jig too. Let's not pretend there isn't a history here. I'm not at all outraged, but I think it's stupid they don't see that as being an issue.

The south and educators seem to be a common theme in this every year which is odd.

Not trying to defend dude, but it's easy to assume without being there. Just like a photo can make things seem way worse than what they are. we are just so fast to throw racism out there. Every time I turn around, it's about racism.

 Do you know the history of blackface? There is nothing funny about it. It has every intention to offend and demean. When someone paints themselves in blackface they are fully aware of what they are doing.

Please enlighten me on blackface. The thread title says blackface but the pic shows me a couple being kimye

I don't see anything that makes me think of blackface or its history. It's ok when black people dress up and put paint on to look like white people tho.

I'm black/Asian raised in the black community just to give a bit of background.

With the way you're defending him you probably don't. It's not about being sensitive. There is no reason to wear blackface. The history of the act is enough reason not to.

He could dress up as Kanye West without the black face, it is not required for the costume. At all

The point of black face it to let people know your a black person. So he is being like "I gonna be a black person for Holloween"

The outrage for this kinda of stuff is not just "oh you're being racist", it is mostly "you're doing something stupid that has a long history of mocking another race"

And argument that society telling white people they shouldn't indulge in a practice that has a long history of mocking blacks and further stereotypes is somehow it being "sensitive" is BS to me.
