Saw this bit on doctor oz. I thought it was the stupidest episode ever. Nitrates bro. And the whole bit on red meat is a huge MAYBE because people that consume processed meats are eating the red meat as well. Statistics are bs.

Everything you do causes some type of sickness, fam.
I see cats clutching their pearls and weeping over bacon causing cancer, but these the same cats that be eating new booty every weekend night after the club.

Cats scared of elevated nitrate levels in their colons, but are open to catching E Coli from butt licking

If you eat alot..like an unhealthy amount of processed meats of course there will be a chance of negative effects on your body...cancer being one possibility.

But even eating ridiculous amounts of ff will only give u an 8% chance of cancer....and of course possibly various other health issues.
Smoking regularly for example increases your chance of cancer by 800%.

Basically just eat right.

I agree with you on the fact that we shouldn't be surprised, this isn't new information to the human race. In fact proper understanding of health and nutrition has been a big part of humanity for at least 30,000 years. You can read it in Christianity, Hinduism, The Emerald Tablets, Egyptian Hieroglyphs etc. etc.

However those stats you mentioned are a little off.

The related health issues Americans face vastly outweigh any cigarette epidemic. This article focuses on half assed information that tells only half of a truth. They don't touch on Alzheimer's, diabetes, dementia, heart disease etc. all of which have been linked to animal products. 1 in every 3 americans will have their chest cut open and their heart taken out of their bodies during surgery. They don't mention that. Why don't they mention that? Sadly they are protecting their own corporate interests because bigger corporations are effected greatly by this information. They stand to lose a ton of money and a ton of power. A TON OF MONEY. Trillions and trillions of dollars. At your expense. At not letting the consumer find out the real information. This isn't a conspiracy lol sounds nutty but really is the idea of people withholding information from their customers because they stand to lose trillions of dollars sound too crazy? Doesn't to me. I know fools that would do grimey **** for a hundred dollars.

Let's focus on the initial reports from the WHO.

- They recognize processed meats cause cancer.
* We have known this for a long period of time. Corporate interests have kept this information from us for a very long time. Thanks to the internet The information is spreading, they have to address it at some point, so heres their sad little attempt.

-Red meats are probably carcinogenic.
* Probably? According to Harvards latest study on red meat and mortality they claim that 1 serving per day of red meat showed a 10% increased risk of dying of cancer and processed meat showed a 16% increase. Thats just 1 serving a day. A "ridiculous" amount would surely lead to an early and depressing death.
Reference: http://archinte.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=1134845

-WHO also stresses that meat has health benefits.
* Unprocessed meat also increases Cardio Vascular Mortality by 18%
Reference: http://archinte.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=1134845

The study also shows that replacing red meat with literally any other food reduces dying from all causes with nuts and whole grains reducing risk the most.

Walter Willett, the chair of Harvards Nutrition Department your body does not care if it receives its essential amino acids from plant or animal sources but that plants have a better quality of protein that bring on other nutrients that are conducive to good health.
Reference: http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/walter-willett/

-In the BBC article about the WHO report Cancer Research UK added that an occasional bacon sandwich would do little harm and a healthy diet was all about moderation.
* Red meat causes a multitude of deadly diseases and moderation arguments are invalid. What is moderation? How much meat is moderate? How much eat can I eat before it becomes un-moderate? When people can't define moderation thats a pretty good sign they are just spewing ******** at you. And according to an American Diabetes Association study those following a semi-vegetarian diet defined as eating red meat 2-3 times a month had twice the risk of developing diabetes compared to strict vegans.
Reference: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2671114/

- "Red Meat does have nutritional value and is a major source of iron, vitamin b12 and zinc".
* Heme Iron in red meat causes cancer along with increased risk in heart disease and diabetes.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24401818

Also, food is a packaged deal and no one gets nutrients in isolation.

1. It's been well known that red meat leads to cancer. This only holds true from people who eat a lot of red meat without balancing it out with fibrous nutrients.

2. Processed meats have preservatives that cause cancer, but having a hot dog or salami every now and then will probably not increase your risk drastically.

3. It sounds cliche by now but everything causes cancer including the air we breathe, no even polluted air but oxygen itself. If you live long enough you will get cancer. Studies done on the cadavers of men who died old found stages of prostate cancer in something like 90 percent of men.

Instead of preaching balance, these health experts preach abstinence. When has that ever worked with anything?
