Unfortunately according to the FO, Bird is playing all next year in AAA...

Well until Teixeira gets injured

I'm on board with the Castro deal. Haven't even thought about Refsnyder post-trade and where he stands.

And Davis is looking for more.

Theo asked for Gardner for Castro a few weeks back. Cashman obviously declined and was willing to wait it out. When Zobrist was likely, offer price for Castro evaporated a ton. Trade was always contingent on Zobrist picking Cubs.

Now if only Hal would allow Cash some leeway with the check book.

Man, when he's in the range of .360 - .370, he's close to a top 10 player...but it's way too much boom/bust to give him that much money.

no way i'm giving Chris Davis $150M+

i'm really liking the Castro deal. didn't give up any top guys & we have our middle infield set for years

Gardner, Nova, and one of our top 3 prospects (no Severino) should land us a front end rotation starter. If we could land Fernandez with that package we could potentially be the team to beat if we acquire uptown or Heyward as well

Tanaka
Fernandez
Pineda
CC
Eovaldi

Shreve
Wilson
Dellin
Miller

Ellsbury
Beltran
Arod
Heyward/Upton
Tex
McCann
Castro
Headley
Didi

:x :x :x

Nova's really not that good or highly regarded and Gardner has a huge red flag in his value with his defense trending downward. You're gonna have to split with prospects to get a front of the rotation guy. You're not getting a guy under team control (plus will only be paid about $25mm for those 3 years) for any of those 2 guys unfortunately. Any front end guys is gonna cost you at least your top prospect with 1 top 10 guy and 1 top 15 guy.

Something like Judge, Refsnyder, Sanchez and maybe a PTBNL is closer to the package Miami would want and that would be a steal for Jo-Fer.

Davis is a K and HR king. Glove isn't special, thought Bal was smarter than offering 150 and I thought for sure he would be gone.

Everything I've heard about Miami and Fern is that Miami wants something CRAZY. Which is understandable since that kid is a ****** beast but I think he's gonna be too much for us. Too bad we couldn't just write Miami a check for him instead.

If the Marlins are asking the Dodgers for Urias, Seager, and Pederson for Fernandez, then the Yankees would have to give up Severino, Judge, Bird, and possibly more to get Fernandez. And their asking price probably went up after seeing what the Braves got for Miller.

I guess I was bugging out  any other top 2 starters on the market with a lesser asking price ?

I was thinking that too. You can't ask for something crazy when his arm had issues before. Might never have another issue but it could again.

He's not a top-2, but I got a feeling y'all get Big Cash from San Diego.

Very elbow-intensive delivery, came back way too early from TJ, got re-injured, I'd exercise caution when trading for him.

TJ surgery is not the curse it once was though. Look at how dominant pitchers coming back from it are. The way to look at that, is if a guy is really far removed from TJ. Someone like Zimmerman was risky for Detroit because he's at that ~1,000 innings pitched since his TJS. And TBH, you're risking an injury with every single pitcher that gets signed. Playing it scared and safe with unknown prospects isn't going to get you where you want to be. There's already been work done to fix Jo-Fer's delivery and flat arm mechanics. Put him in a positive environment and he'll take bigger steps towards nailing that down.

Sad thing is Miami is gonna overprice Fernandez and when his elbow goes be stuck with nothing.

What do you want them to do when they're trading their ace though  You would obliterate the Yankees or the Mets for asking for peanuts for guys like Tanaka (who's arm is gonna blow out soon) or Harvey (who's had TJ once).

Didn't Fernandez have multiple issues? Either way, I still want the guy. Just saying, I would be cautious and wouldn't trade it all. I trust Harvey a little more. Would love to take either one of them. I'm scared Tanaka's arm is gonna go any day now.

he came back 8 months earlier than power pitchers are supposed to and experienced a bicep issue, went to the dl and came back again to pitch when the season didn't matter. harvey had 18 months off to rest and never experienced any complications. just boras being a prick.

Yea, I think it was a bicep strain that shut him down for the year. JRS is 100% right on his delivery being high risk. But, IMO, working with a better organization to change the upper body part of the delivery would make me feel a lot better about him.

dont get me wrong, I'm not saying its a bad idea to pursue him, just not at the price tag the marlins have on him at the moment. a deal around judge and like matteo or something is very fair. i just wouldnt include severino whatsoever.

For sure. But that just goes back to the notion that he's the ace, there's 3 years team control in arbitration where he would only make ~$25 million and they have a history of botching trades for horrific prospects. They gotta ask for the top prospects or MLB might investigate them

The one main worry I would have is that he's resistant to change his delivery. I haven't heard anything suggesting it but that's the difference between being a dominant stud for 10 years or being Jason Isringhausen.
