Now that Upton is off the market to the Tigers..

O's & Tigers out of OF market.

Leaves really just the Angels.

I'd now turn my attention to Cespedes.

4 year / $90mil + 5th year at $20mil, but a buyout. Can opt out after 3.


If you look at the FA market that's left, it stinks. Dustin Fowler & Austin Jackson are meh options. There's no SP left in the market, and if you go to next year's FA, Strausberg is the best FA SP. Very good option. I exclude Jared Weaver because I wouldn't want him for more than 1-2 year, mid 30s at FA. Can't go more than 2 years.

Carlos Gomez is the best OFer FA next year. Over 30.

If we go with this team, and don't sign Cespedes, even despite him not being a guy I particularly like. We will miss the playoffs the next 2 years, almost a guarantee.

We'll definitely miss it, this season. We won't get the same production we got from Teix, Beltran & A-Rod. It's massively unlikely. And even if we do, it's still not good enough. Our rotation is in shambles, some really good pitching, but injury prone.

If you stay put, then you have to go into 2017. You must re-sign Chapman. Then trade away Miller, even though you shouldn't but because you need the talent. Then have to trade away Gardner for an even lower price, but then you need to find the guy that fills in for him. Then hope Judge is 100% ready, and bank on another A-Rod year. Starting pitching would at least come around.


How it breaks down with Cespedes...
Year 1: Cespedes / Ellsbury / Beltran... Hicks & Ackley backups
*If Ellsbury goes down, could throw Hicks in CF. Or Cespedes in CF & HIcks in LF either way
Year 2: Cespedes / Ellsbury / Judge.... Hicks & Ackley backups
Year 3: Cespedes / Ellsbury / Judge... Hicks backup
Year 4: Harper, Ellsbury & Judge.... Deal Hicks for help somewhere else, last year of Arbitration
*Cespedes is the everyday DH + Backup OFer.




We should have went after Upton, but now that he's gone. You have to go Cespedes, and trade Gardner.

Cespedes resigned with the Mets for 3 years 75 and he has an opt out after this year. He came calling to the Yankees first :smh:
 
The next 2, maybe 3 years are going to be really bad.. Free Agencies are piss poor. Unless the Yankees pull a ridiculous trade out of their hats.


Just looking at 32 & Under, Intriguing names...

Going into 2017:
Colby Rasmus, 32.. No thanks. Josh Reddick, 30 is meh.
No thanks to long term on Carlos Gomez. It would have to be like 3 years / $45mil. And that's not happening with the market.
Mark Trumbo - no thanks


Stephen Strasburg is a must sign.

Re-sign Aroldis.


Going into 2018:
Cargo & Jay Bruce for Outfield. No thanks.
Todd Frazier will be 31, and likely looking for 5-7 years, no thanks.
Mike Moustakas probably only guy that is worth it from the fielding

Arrieta will be 31.. And he'll likely be going through 3 200+ IP years in a row.. Gotta pass, can't invest in that, even if he's still an Ace..
Alex Cobb will be 30 and a back of the rotation guy

Basically it's just Mous and re-signing Pineda & Eovaldi... Have to trade Headley to get Mous.



The Yankees really bungled this offseason... You go after Upton, and you start shedding roster to make it work financially.. Gardner, Headley & Nova all could have been traded. Even if you had to eat part of Headley's deal. Those 3 for Upton is a massive +. Now we're stuck with a mediocre team for a few years, waiting for the paint to dry.
