Its a movie. Director's/studios can call them w/e they want.
There's a movie called Brooklyn coming out. It's about white ppl post some world war. That's obviously not what I think about when I think of my borough.
if all you got from that is that I just think it should be called something else idk what to tell you baby pa, cause that's not the case. he could have called it anything but the fact remains that its (supposed to be) based around contemporary Chicago gang culture but it doesn't seem to come close to reflecting that, his entire portrayal is bordering on comical, and that's putting it lightly. and obviously film makers sensationalize, and I think we all know to suspend belief a little when watching any movie, but when they go way over the top they get called out on it. and that's regardless of the subject matter. this looks like a movie that spike would have spoke out against in the past. be real with yourself man, just a look at their clothes should tell you all you need to know.
Hollywood or not. The people of Chicago own the term Chi-raq. If you are going to commercialize it and make money on it then you should portray the people properly (Not seriously but at least authentic in flavor/vibe).
If he made a movie called "Piru City: A Westside Story" based the whole story on the classic broadway play "West Side Story" and had a bunch of clowns in it trivializing their life and struggles and putting them on display to be laughed at by mainstream america.... He wouldn't try walking down the street in Compton. It's as simple as that. People in Chicago have been shot for less offensive things.
can't speak for anyone else but heres how to rectify the situation in my eyes
1) Cast more Chicagoans in primary roles... Alvin Johnson... that's the best you could do?
2) Change the city. Do your story remake somewhere else.... The idea of a sex strike highlighting issues about Chicago violence is not viable.
3) make an incredible film... we'll see if he gets let off the hook.
You guys are centering the focus around music because thats where you heard the term but its really more about the streets being a literal war zone. He probably could've called the movie Drill and recieved like 1/5th of the backlash
@JaysRcrak Never said that I played the victim, but if that's how you interpret what I stated then that's your prerogative.
You know nothing about me or my everyday actions, so once again your just REACHING and assuming.
Your living in a fantasy world where you think all people ESPECIALLY the YOUTH are self aware,
responsible and know all the information that's out there.
Even more laughable your living in a fantasy world where you reference kings.
Brother we're just all ordinary people no one is better than the next man.
My point is I just don't sit there and criticize people and point a finger without looking at all sides of a situation.
I agree with all of the points you make about taking responsibility for your actions, but I also realize
people have been brainwashed and forced into certain tough situations in life.
NOT EVERYONE HAS HAD THE SAME OPPORTUNITIES AND UPBRINGING.
If you don't want to acknowledge that and feel like your opinion is the LAW then live in your fantasy world.
They love people like you because you support their tainted judicial system.
Who ever said the judge would let the drug dealers go because of the facts of the world?????
I CLEARLY stated that the RISK and DANGERS of being locked up where the consequences of selling drugs.
I CLEARLY agree with the points you make about why slanging doesn't work.
What I said and this is FACT is that it is the easy choice to start selling drugs.
When you are around that environment, its readily available and you see other people doing it....
it's easy to fall into that TRAP. People like to do what is easy especially uninformed, lost
and easily personable youth. People don't like to do what's hard. It usually involves
people sacrificing, being uncomfortable, being diligent and unwavering.
If there was no money in drugs then why would people still be doing it?
Better yet, why are states that are legalizing drugs, Marijuana specifically seeing an economic boost?
You like to put false statements and stories together that don't even make sense,
to try to justify the point you are reaching to make.
Brother you literally take bits and pieces of what I state and then curve it to make it seem like I'm
saying something completely different and off the wall.
I KNOW THOSE JEDI MIND TRICKS THOUGH YOUR JUST LIKE THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA!!!!!
NEVER BEEN A VICTIM OR PLAYED ONE. I'M A GROWN MAN I DON'T LIKE PLAYING ANYTHING, but softball.
Always been bout the action boss.
