Nike Air Jordan Retro Metallic V - 7/23/16

Elephant print is best kept subtle and understated IMO. Too much or too bold and it gets gaudy and tacky in a hurry. Not going to post pics to demonstrate since it's off topic but retro 3's with the bolder, thicker print look like how I imagine fakes of 3s looked like in 88.

That's not true for me anyway. While I want retros to be as close to OG's I'm usually happy with retros. I never said I didn't like retros.

Fakes weren't really a thing. The only authentic looking fakes from back then were the black/gold 1's IIRC, which I'm trying really hard to cop.

I'd have to agree, I liked the 06's a bit. But really the 2013 gives me nightmares, and I'm not that picky.

there is an article some where the breaks down the history of Durabuck and then the Nikebuck they've been using since 1998. It actually is better, longer lasting even though it's become thinner recently.

Yup we understand retros not gonna be like ogs but to say retros are better than ogs? Thats like saying a bootleg dvd is better than an actual retail dvd of the same movie

When the retros fix issues and sometimes improve on materials, it's safe to say yes. Let's not go into a circle.

that depends on your point of view. imo.

most retros are better in terms of quality control. materials may not be on par with the original, but the fit & finish are better. they may not have the feel of the original when you first got them, but they can be just as good. the shape of the shoe is another story. the gone are those slented toebox that made the shoes look like a sandwitch.

it's like comparing VHS to DVD/Bluray.

Thing is JB isn't fixing issues. They were producing subpar retros in a effort to cut cost with crappy quality control. That is what your praising them for. The things you like about the retros is the result of producing them in a lazy manor for years. Why support or encourage a company to do that, especially when they want more money for said products? As the consumer I'd be pissed off. Not praising them for it. That's why they started this remaster thing in the first place. Effort is finally being put into the retros of the OG colors.

I'm talking about early retros, circa 1994-2004. The remaster is nice, the price gouging that's continued post-Gentry Brand isn't.

That comparision fails. It's like taking a crappy grained cult classic film from the 80s and giving it the 8K scanned Criterion edition in super digital HD Blu-ray

I'm getting who's arguing what confused. 94-04 wasn't bad as far as retros go. It's what's come since 04 that's been a disgrace IMO.

2016 WC4 tongue is better, shape of the shoe is better, the back tab looks really nice, speckle looks better, the wing looks better, whole shoe looks better. Probably has better leather too.

IMO, that era produced shoes superior in both materials and availability/price, excluding stuff like the 2's.

Retros until after the recession were fine because they stayed at the same price, and I didn't mind them. The 3-5 of that era also suffered from clown toe syndrome, but if they were still $120 shoes, they would be fine.

I'd have to agree from a visual perspective, but always keep in mind that the synthetic leather on the 89's is paper thin and nobody can play the craftsmanship card.

The 89 has the fact it's actually a mid top shoe and doesn't have OD shotgun blast speckling going for it, but the 99 is equal to it in my eyes.

These are the same people who prefer the Ashy Larry material on OG colorways over durabuck because it's more "premium" :smh:
