Checks vs Direct Deposit

Such a simple thing that we take for granted.

Years ago, at my first job, I used to have to drive to work and beg someone to give me my physical check which was usually like 90 bucks

Another job I had (which I still loved) I had to manually fill out an invoice sheet every other week and send it in, and then every other Friday I would hope that my physical check came with no discrepancies and that I could make it to an ATM in time to deposit before the 9pm weekend cutoff :smh: and I was still always broke

Now I get paid every single Friday so there's no "off" week, and waking up every Friday to see that bread just sitting your account feels good man  still hate my job :smh:

Just reminded me I got to pay bills :smh:

Direct deposit>>>>>

Direct deposit is dope... i get paid every other Friday so when i wake up Friday morning i feel great seeing that money... the thing that sucks is the money comes in but goes back out for bills :smh:

Direct deposit is dope for the convenience obviously. But back in high school I had a job where they gave you checks every other week. I wanted to save money so I didn't deposit those checks for months. Just kept them piling up and by the time I deposited it I was BANKING.

I wish I can do that now but got bills to pay for ...

Only time I didn't have direct deposit was when I was in high school. Having to go to the store even on off days to get your check wasn't the move.

Having a full time job now that pays every Friday is dope, but makes saving money harder. I don't have to budget like I would when I would get paid biweekly. Even though it's the same amount, just knowing you have a paycheck coming in at the end of the week makes me justify purchases I wouldn't justify otherwise.

Only job I had without direct deposit was kids footlocker, hated picking up and depositing checks such a waste of time.

I'm at a job now where I get paid with checks after only working jobs with Direct Deposit.

Mobile Deposit changed the game now.

Yup, real easy if you need to send money to someone with a diff bank, just right the check right then and there and they can put it in their phone instantly.

The weekly checks actually help me budget a lot. Since I always expect a deposit, I can knock out a few bills one week and just chill the next. I think it depends on allocation

I used to do the same. "Oh I'm getting paid again Friday! *buys stupid ***** "

I don't mean to pocket watch omgitswes omgitswes (que "I'm from Brooklyn, we don't do that" /dame) but something that helped me save and budget was opening up another bank account and allocating a percentage of my deposit to it. I leave the debit card at home so I'm not tempted to use it while out and about.

I miss the nostalgia of checks. Don't miss having to catch the bus on Friday to pick them up and making up excuses for why I couldn't take peoples' Friday night shifts tho. "I'll let you have my tips!"

Way to save account or equivalent is the way to go.

It automatically takes a percentage of your debit card swipes or withdrawls and puts it in the savings account.

In like 2 months you'll easily have a couple hundred saved up.

I'm with Wells Fargo, it's called a Way To Save account. IDK what bank you're with but I'd call and inquire as to if they have a similar service. It really did help me out during my brokeboi days.

But on the other hand, it's really just an automatic version of something you can do yourself. If you take a certain percent of all your purchases and deposit in a savings account, it's basically the same thing.

Direct deposit the goat. I was doing paper checks back in 12 getting paid every other Friday. Now I got dd and get paid every Thursday. Working afternoons I don't get to even spend the money til Saturday. But how I save, outside of bills, I just spend out every other check.

Direct deposit is really convenient since the funds automatically go into your account and that saves a trip to the bank. I used to collect my paper checks and cash them at once and I like that it's tangible. I like to have the money in my hand.

Bill pay one week, straight flossing the next :pimp:

DD all day.  The crazy **** is that there will be times that I go weeks and sometimes months without seeing/touching actual money.

We digital now.

Was using paper checks for a long time cause I was used to it, and it gave me a reason to talk to all the fine tellers at my bank. Then they slowly started replacing them with frumpy *** chicks and I got a later work schedule, so it's DD now.

I go to the ATM every other week and take half of what's in there out. 1 to keep my online shopping down, 2 I ain't swiping everywhere
