Simultaneous terrorist attacks around Paris...Vol. Here we go again.Update 07/14/16 p42: Nice terror

I woke up today after a night in Manhattan, and the first thing I thought of wasn't about how good of a time I had,

But that I can't believe I actually debated with other adults (who aren't mentally challenged,) that the religion of Islam shouldn't be blamed for these attacks

It's pathetic, and while I was in that half-asleep state, for a split-second I even thought it might have been a weird dream. But it's not. I really did have to debate that. Its pretty sad.

Makes me do a hybrid of :smh: :rolleyes |I

Adel Termos, a Beirut resident out with his young daughter, witnessed a horrific bombing on Thursday. Then he made a split-second decision that saved countless lives. As a second suicide bomber moved toward onlookers clustering at the scene of the explosion, Termos rushed the suspect.

"He tackled him to the ground, causing the second suicide bomber to detonate," says blogger and physician Elie Fares, who lives in Beirut. "There are many many families, hundreds of families probably, who owe their completeness to his sacrifice."

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the twin suicide bombings that took an estimated 45 lives, including Termos. More than 200 people were wounded. It's not clear, however, whether the daughter died. Pictures posted recently seem to suggest she survived.

if Islam is to blame or not so what? Who cares and why? Probably uneducated individuals that don't understand that's how Christianity started.

If they can't agree with that then they shouldn't talk about the issue and rather blame all those atrocities to extremist groups that happen to believe and interpret their faith a certain way.

It's not black and white.

You can't deny that a major factor in being able to convince these people to do such terrible things was their faith.

. The irony. But most people didn't get the same course in history as you about how the Christians committed terrorist acts on the Romans.

The diversion bigotry in this thread is amazing.

It is black and white and I can 'deny' it. Islam is not to blame for these attacks. Just like how Christianity isn't to be blamed for terrorism, I mean "mass shootings" that are done in the name of it.

I still can't believe I'm having to explain this to another adult.

edit: i do agree with you saying it was used to convince them. i mean it's not even a matter of agreeing there, it's a fact. but that wasn't my point.

could you explain why islam played no role in these attacks?

you type a lot of words and complain about having to explain things without actually explaining anything

Because the islam is not inherently evil or violent. It is religion just like any other.
Religious extremism is the problem, not Islam.

No one is condemning Islam as a whole, but religious extremism doesn't exist without religion

Plenty of people are condemning Islam as a whole. Haven't read through this thread much but people condemning the Islam as a whole is more common than you think.
I live in Belgium, a few hours away from France. You can't imagine how much I hear stuff like "muslims should just be exterminated, the world would be better without them"

islam (or any other religion) doesnt need to be inherently violent. all it is is a bunch of texts which can be interpreted however which way you want.

Islam played a role in this because Islam is used by ISIS to give themselves credibility, their members truly believe they are doing the work of god and while they are logically terrible people their interpretation of the religious texts are no more or less accurate than any peaceful muslim.

this is not an issue that is exclusive to islam, its a problem with all religions. However it just so happens that the people behind this attack were doing it in the name of the islamic god.

there are extremists on both sides

the world is not black and white

I wasn't expecting that. France isn't playing around

To quote a post that was posted in the soccer thread "the French don't **** around when it comes to ******* around "

I may be wrong but I don't doubt that intelligence agencys know ISIS locations, and simply monitor them in hopes of discovering something/someone bigger. Then ish like this goes down and their hands are forced to act. Why else would we see immediate strikes. Codes were broken pre-9/11 and we know what happened there.

Reminds me of that scene from "shooter" where the dude says "nothing in this world, no matter how bad, happens without the government knowing about it"

Not trying to start anything, maybe I'm just being naive

Oh no? LMAO

I can't believe the amount of nonsense I read. Just because this extremist are using religion as a excuse doesn't mean without religion they wouldn't excist ... Please check some of your history books. I'm sure you will find a few ...

Ps my apologies if you are saying that because of the phrase"religious extremist" ...

However, extremist have excisted and have always used an excused for their malicious acts.

Good job misinterpreting what I said :rolleyes

I didn't say EXTREMISTS wouldn't exist without religion...I said RELIGIOUS EXTREMISTS wouldn't exist

You are absolutely right. That's why I edited my response before your reply.

Ok we're good

You're right...bad people will always find a justification to carry out their misdeeds and some people happen to use perverse interpretations of faith

The problem with most of the general public blaming Islam for these attacks is that they fail to recognize that this is an issue with all religions. So they basically paint it as an "Islam problem" instead of a "religion problem" and it turns into a "my religion is better than your religion" argument.
