What caused the shift in public opinion when it comes to homosexuality?

It's nice that we have an openly gay member here. How do you feel about the recent threads about homosexuality and some NT members' responses? For example when someone says they don't agree with homosexuality. It's good that we have the perspective of a gay member now.

i made a coming out thread on here 4 years ago haha. it was fairly well received, as was the more recent thread about the legalization of gay marriage (which i didn't start but commented on frequently).

negative stuff doesn't bother me anymore. i just try to introduce a perspective that's (unfortunately) unique on this forum and hope i can change minds through dialog and challenging certain beliefs or stereotypes.

@Master Zik

I am saying Thug dude is a damn fool because of his "gimmick." But he is an entertainer and the job of an entertainer is to have people speak your name, good or bad. It works for him. Corny route, but I guess it works for him.

During happy hour, some guy from work told us that the gay persecution in the US was / is worse than what black folks went through.

People troll with this. On the internet and in real life. He has balls to say stuff like that in real life.

Let me ask yall another question. Is it possible for a straight person and a gay person to get into a fight, and the gay person loses, without it being flipped into being a hate crime

Sure, so long as it's mutual combat.

Damn.......

Rondo must've known, I figure it was just him throwing it out how people do in sports.

Doesn't make it right but even Kobe has used the word before and others.

Gays control music, fashion, film. The youth of today don't see homosexuality as out of the ordinary. Bigotry stems from having a low IQ and living in a bubble. The descendents of those people are now growing up on Youtube and Pinterest. Also we are becoming less religious as a society. Agnosticism/Atheism has increased 10% over the last decade. The shackles of the mind are being freed.

So. much. Irony.

Hes saying its ironic the dudes staes peoples mind are in shackles when he's the one with the closed mind.

Neither know what the hell they're talking about.

Somewhat related, but I find it interesting that in a thread like this...nobody is denying the influence of tv/music on the mind of the youth. Whether you believe the "homosexual agenda" is negative or positive...everyone seems to acknowledge that we're being shown something for a reason.

But when I go into the music forum and try to explain the same exact concept and the influence music and imagery has...i get told im crazy and that it's just entertainment...and that music/imagery has no influence whatsoever on anyone.

Haven't been there in a while in a lot of threads but that assessment is pretty much on point and has always been the case with music, performances, and music videos.

I think ppl dismiss it quickly is cuz of the shift in content for most popular music and how they solely enjoy it for entertainment purposes. A lot of the music isn't requiring you to do a lot of in depth thinking. As opposed to tv and movie where it's heavily opinion based no matter what genre you're watching. It quickly demands you do some thinking in relation to your likes and dislikes. Something you initially enjoyed can quickly turn left in the same ep let alone week to week or movie to movie. So there's perhaps more levels of awareness.

I specifically remember around the time I started noticing more poc in tv shows than in the past on certain channels. Same way with more LBGT ppl having a presence. You can tell when something goes from being token, to novel, to the norm. It kinda always stays in my mind how all of a sudden curse words like ***, *****, etc. are so frequently used and accepted in the prime time slot where children can still hear it when that was not the case 20 years ago on basic network tv.

With music it's just gonna be different for ppl cuz you gotta also take in account with tv and movies you can blame the "man", the execs making the decisions you don't have the effort to put a face to a name. With music though, the artist is held accountable, some times it's them writing the songs. Most don't think somebody else decided for that to be said that way or for this thing to be glorified or this group of ppl were chosen to be in the videos.

FTR, when it comes to tv and movies I don't think it's so much an agenda but money motivation. Yes it influences the youth either way but I get the feeling when we talk about homosexuals and entertainment there's a lot of them in the business and some are stepping up and making sure they're represented for w/e social shift is happening in the world at large and they're only allowed to keep doing it cuz they are successes money wise.
