Engagement Vol: Its Time

Thinking of doing a destination wedding possibly to the same resort ... anyone have any experience with destination weddings?

Props. I purposed as well. Was super mellow and almost embarrassing but me and my girl have been together for a long time. Even though, I still have a hard time calling her my fiancee. I guess that will take some practice.

Homie is getting engaged right about now and invited all of us to have a "surprise" celebration in an hour.

Despite my personal views on marriage, I look forward to buying the happy couple shots all night.

getting married next month, just had my bachelor party last week in New Orleans (Mardi Gras). :smh: I miss the bachelor party so much

Anyone ever get married in puerto rico? How much was the wedding and amount of money spent on activities?

I was best man for my homies wedding we had his bachelor party in puerto rico. We saw a couple getting married at the resort we stayed at. It might be the same price as a wedding here in the U.S their currency is the U.S dollar over there too. It might be cheaper because you'll have less guest attending.

I think this looks like a wedding band instead of engagement ring
Yup

We're getting married in PR next year. So far it's very expensive. The most expensive thing is the reception food right now. We're low key hoping people don't show due to how much it cost per plate lmfao.

If you serious about it bro, I can help you get in touch with some amazing people that can help wifey in the process of setting up an off-site destination wedding, far better than a cookie-cutter resort wedding bro, my connects are only in the Punta Cana area tho....my sisternlaw got married there 2 years ago, since then I've shot one wedding there myself and she's been helping brides plan their weddings offsite....I won't dwell into details unless you want me to help you.

Here is her wedding 2 years ago, featured on StyleMePretty....your wifey a photographer, TRUST ME SHE WOULD LOVE THIS.

And this is a wedding I shot in the same venue this past year

Trust me this is a cheaper route and you get a lot more bang for your buck and freedom than doing it IN the resort....

This info goes for anyone wanting a destination wedding, thought of making a thread about it now that my sisnlaw is taking the planning more seriously, but she can help link you with the planner, create a vision, help with invites, budget, etc...there are photogs out there but I also fly out and shoot myself...destination weddings can add up, but trust me with the right info and people you can save a ton, my sisinlaws wedding was BEAUTIFUL and I think her total spendings with rings, dress and suit and even flights I think were a bit over 20k for 65 guests....the wedding looked nicer than some 100k+ weddings I've shot

Wait....all the fights for all the guests are included in the 20k price tag? I always thought that was the serious catch of destination weddings. Its cheaper per say for the couple getting married but it's a total pain for the guest to go since they have to pay a hefty plane ride to where ever they were going, and that didn't include their motel stay, food and even gift. I went to one in Hawaii for my friend and granted it was fun but I at least dropped a couple of thousand dollars to just partake in that wedding.

Nahhh Fong....guests covered their own, but like I said my sisnlaw will handle the resort your guest will stay at and try to negotiate a cheaper rate if you can guarantee a number of guests....depending on that the resort might even host a welcome dinner, she did all this for her wedding...

Either way, guests will always raise a brow when you invite them to a destination wedding, those that don't matter will bail, so it weeds out the people you shouldn't pay to feed, so IMO is a win for you, those that do go, will have an absolute blast, GUARANTEED, there is no beating a destination wedding bro, the most glamorous local wedding is over before you can blink, a destination is a multiple day celebration, guests will hook up, new friends will be found, etc...

Most people dont go on vacation regularly so they use destination weddings as an opportunity to do so. i went on one in cancun and it was amazing!

You underestimate cheap Asian people. The people that would bail on my wedding would all be my immediate family. Haha. My cousins is even marrying a guy that is from Missouri and almost 80% of my family is not going cause they don't want to pay for the airfare. It sucks but I guess this type of wedding is more suitable for people that aren't as stingy to spend money. I can dig it but I don't think the rest of my Wu Tang Clan will.

Dang bro, I feel you, that's really unfortunate that you have to design your wedding around them :frown:

Tbh depending on how many guests you can probably help those cheap family members (which I think is ridiculous) still host an offsite destination wedding and it stillllll being cheaper and def nicer than something locally....lol

a crapload of my aunts, uncles and cousins went to the caribbean for a cousin's wedding and the consensus was that it sucked. they're mostly older asian people and would have much preferred flying to ohio (where my cousin is from) and staying at some hotel, going to the church for the wedding and having the reception at the hotel. they were complaining that they would have rather given the money they spent on the flights etc to the couple getting married. they said it was a waste of money.

Maybe is just me, but anyone that thinks of my wedding as a "waste of money" for them to attend, don't need to be celebrating with me

Then again I can also see how a lot of older relatives won't see the fun in a weekend long party

Dominicans don't have that issue, no matter the age these people gonna be LIT....locally or destination, there will still be people that will complaint, so I'm gonna say this, THIS IS YOUR DAY....not anyone else's, stop worrying about your moms BFF or that uncle you see twice a year, if they want to come and be a part of it, they will...if not OH WELL....is not about them bros....don't base your desicions on their participation.

my wife and i did exactly that though. we went against what our families had planned for us - a church wedding with a huge reception. it was definitely our day and we did it our way. had it on maui and it was very small and really nice. married on the beach and had a fantastic dinner with everyone afterwards. only the people that we wanted to come were there. hung out quite a bit with my in-laws that weekend and they welcomed me into the family.

Sounds like you had a lovely wedding then bro, sorry for my bluntness but those family members that complained can go kick rocks
