It's not as bad as baseball with the amount of games, but they need to cut at least 15 games per.. 60-65 is a good number, with teams having no more than 3 games per week and no back to backs
I'm never a fan of changing the amount of games in any sport. Sports history and comparing stats / achievements is a gigantic reason as to why it's fun being a fan of sports to me personally. I'd rather have everyone on the same playing field with games played. It gives me a headache just thinking about what the hypotheticals would become when evaluating greatness. I'm fine with tweaking schedules for rest reasons but not changing the amount of games played. If the athletes in the past could do it the athletes of today should be able to as well.
Football might be an exception due to how the game evolved into players becoming freak physically making it more dangerous but I don't want it being changed from 16 games unless we reach a point where it's absolutely necessary for health reasons. Which is an issue every other sport doesn't even come close to having.
The varying rule changes have a way bigger impact on stats.. For example guys playing before there was a 3 pt line in basketball.. Or when the line has been moved
Or them cutting down on hand checking and the physicality of the 90s in the present era of the NBA.. Plus allowing zone defenses
You'll never truly truly be able to compare guys after a certain point.. But you have to do what's in the best interest of the players so we the fans can get the best product possible
Like the nfl with the Thursday games, the players' bodies aren't given sufficient time to recover from the sunday games.. And because they have a short week, the coaches don't have the usual time to get guys prepared.. Then you have vets who get rest days during the week, like romo gets Wednesday's off. So him having a Thursday game impacts things
For the NBA cutting out 3 games in 4 nights will be huge.. Reducing (and I think they should eliminate) back to backs, will be huge.. Give guys time to rest.. Time to actually have practices
