I have two scenarios and I wanna know who's in the right/wrong here:

1) I was at the bar last weekend with some friends. Offered to buy the next round for two of them. I had exactly $18 cash in my pocket. I also had my CC with me. I made a mental determination immediately after ordering the drinks (which I did NOT know the cost of at the time; though I had a good idea it'd be $5-8 a piece) that I would pay with the $18 cash I had as long as the drinks cost were equal or less than that (if lesser I'd tip $1-3). The bartender told me "$18". I gave him my money and walked away. As I walked away my friends asked me if I tipped him because he called me a **** (behind my back). I told them that, "no, I didn't tip because the amount of cash I had was exactly how much the drinks cost." Well they got mad at me, apologized to the bartender FOR ME (against my will; I was not sorry), called me selfish, and my one friend even took his food to the other end of the bar to eat it away from me. This is my best friend! I told them they were overreacting and needed to chill out.

Was I wrong here?

2) I have a Thai place below where I live. It's pretty good and they make food quick so I call in for pickup orders a lot. Went to pick up food with my girl one time earlier this week (this is after the story above) and she noticed I didn't leave any tip. I just put a "/" though the tip section and rewrote the total. I do this every time I pick up food from there and they have never said anything. My girl said I should at least tip a few dollars. I didn't understand what for. They didn't deliver it to my door. If they did, I would give them a tip for delivery, $5 or so. So any way last night I picked up food from the same place and decided I'd tip $2. It felt so WRONG. I was so disgusted in myself for giving my money away for literally nothing. I'm not tipping for pickup orders ever again.

Am I wrong here?

1. Yes. Personally, I always tip bartenders per drink. You could've paid with the card and tipped with the cash.

2. Nope. You picked it up. I dont believe in tipping for picking up food. They have to cook it regardless.

I don't think you did anything wrong, but according to NTlogic, "if you can't afford to tip, then you shouldn't be going out to eat". And facts don't matter nowadays  :smh:

In the first scenario, your best friend is acting like a female. He went across the room to eat away from you? You shouldve slapped him around and embarrassed him infront of everyone.

In the 2nd scenario, your girl is just talking to talk. You know how some people just feel the need to comment on some **** that don't need their commentary? That might be what she's doing. You going to pick food up doesn't put the waiter out of his way AT ALL. Tell the waiter to throw the hands if he has an issue with you, and tell your girl to relax and enjoy the food that you bought

1. Bartender was out of line, but why didn't you put the drinks on your check card and then tip cash?

2. Obviously tipping is optional, but I don't feel it's necessary for takeout.

 @ the image in my head of your boy being so disgusted w/ you he went to the other side of the bar to eat.

My mans was like:

1. Pay with CC and use cash for tip

2. Hell no I'm not tipping when I had to come get it , what's next I tip the deli when I buy a bag of cheese doodles? chill

1) **** your ***** *** friends and that coward *** bartender talking **** behind your back. You had exactly $18 and paid for it. If son wants a tip for pouring drinks he should put more effort in to his job or make sure the customers are all rich/careless with cash. When ya boy walked away from you to eat you should've slapped his kufi off his head for that ***** move. Hell, when they asked you if you tipped you should've just lied and said yes. Lying always saves you time.

2) Don't let these ppl change how you operate b. Especially when it aint for the better. If it's against your nature don't do it. Don't get hypnotized by the ill na na. This situation is worse than the last one b. I mean damn, you picked up the food they aint do ****. **** why you even putting a slash on the paper for tip? I'd ignore that **** altogether and just pay the exact price for the food and nothing more.

Man up OP, next time you post or make a thread about tipping I want to hear the story about how you regulated on all these ***** *** tippers and didn't cave to their peer pressuring ***** *** tactics.

Can't wait til NYC starts regulating on the bars and cuts out tipping their too.

The bartender is gonna cry over that? Dude must really be hurtin. You were not in the wrong at all, you dont HAVE to tip your bartender after every damn drink.

Bigger issue here is your boy being a lame for moving to the other end of the table. Herb status.
