***It does not matter how organic your food is, how many supplements you take or how consistent you are with your multivitamins. If your gut isn't healthy, you wont get the intended benefits of these things***

We all have trillions of bacteria in our gut. There are good and bad bacteria. A good ratio to have is 80 to 85% good bacteria. A negative imbalance of these bacteria can lead to a slew of issues you wouldn't even naturally link to your gut.

Issues caused by poor gut health:

- Digestive issues like bloating, gas, diarrhea
- Food allergies or sensitivities
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Mood swings, irritability
- Skin problems: Eczema, Rosacea
- Diabetes
- Autoimmune disease
- Frequent Infections
- Pruritus
- Poor memory and concentration
- ADD or ADHD
- Leaky gut
(- I personally speculate acne as well, but this is purely my own speculation)

Treatment:

-Fermented Foods- tons of videos online that walk you through fermenting veggies
-Probiotics and Prebiotics- Probiotics are the good bacteria (can be a capsule, liquid or found in fermented foods) and Prebiotics feed the good bacteria ( garlic, leeks, artichokes, onions) **If you have taken anti-biotics, specially within the last 5yrs, you MUST take these. Antibiotics kills ALL stomach bacteria, so you want to replenish and build up the good bacteria**
-Dietary changes- reducing or cutting out sugars that feed bad bacteria, fats, and processed food.

This thread is inspired by my lil girl. When she was 2yrs old, we realized she was allergic to a lot foods: wheat/gluten, all dairy, corn (its in EVERYTHING, this was the most devastating), bananas, nuts, tomatos, peaches, all nightshades (potatoes, radishes, etc), all beans, salmon, all peppers, most spices, and much more. She also had really severe Eczema. The worst case our doctor said she had ever seen. Her other allergies included pollen, flowers, grass, dust, dogs, and cats.

She is 4yrs old now and all she is allergic to is gluten. I just wanted to pass along the knowledge. I just started eating fermented cucumbers and carrots, and taking a probiotic daily because of all the benefits I learned through her healing journey. After a couple weeks, I noticed I had way more energy, my mind was so much sharper, and I had an easier time recalling things. Never heard of gut health or knew how important it was til I had to help my daughter take serious control of hers. She had an extreme case but I feel it affects a lot of people and they don't even know it.

Big ups to your daughter for making progress
Big ups to you for taking care of your child

What's a probiotic? Is that in Greek yogurt? Because I eat a whole lot of that. I eat sweet potatoes, chicken breast, homemade green smoothies (kale, ginger, parsley, celery, lime) and I drink milk, and water. Sometimes I might eat a muffin or a pie, sweets are my weakness.

^^^Thanks.
Probiotics are good bacteria that help your body function. They are present in Yogurt however its not a good source becuase it doesnt have a decent amount of probiotics, its pasturized, and the level of sugars in it actually feed the bad bacteria.

This is an ad for GoLive but it will give you a clear picture of what Probiotics do

More info on probiotics?

Ive always been a very gassy person, lately I feel like ive been gassy a lot more. Im never bloated or anything though, just farting a lot.

Bulking season = farting season.

Try manuka honey, I had some stomach issues awhile back and got put on. Do your research tho, lots of fake stuff.

Also, I eat a banana and a Greek yogurt daily now and it has helped alot.

Just bought a bottle of probiotics 2wks ago cuz I think I might have leaky gut... I can't really digest foods I use to eat (pizza, Taco Bell etc) Are the probiotics suppose to make you feel dizzy or off? I feel weird every time I take em,

I also been taking collagen powder or bone broth, feel so much better when drinking those, I hear they help heal lucky gut. For the past few months I've been dealing with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, skin issues as well as digestion problems. I hear the stomach is the 2nd brain...so it's prob all connected. I'm going to start an elimination diet soon to find out what's causing the inflammation, then slowly reintroduce foods back into my diet. I'm probably allergic to something that I still eat but idk. :frown:

Been realizing this, eating out a lot recently and stomach got bloated, migraines are more frequent, I'm tired when I shouldn't. So you use the golive probiotic?

Florastor is my go to probiotic. I had a major bout with cdiff years ago and I learned my lesson about taking antibiotics without a probiotic. It got so bad that I got depressed and I joined an online cdiff support group where I learned about florastor. Florastor is a yeast based probiotic so you can take it at the same time you take an antibiotic.

Going to cop.

Edit: Looks like the most solid probiotic available on Amazon.

Im having a couple of those things listed in the OP. Feeling a lot more bloated and gassy especially when im hungry, its crazy. I stopped the protein shakes because of it. I know the answer is simple just more greens and fibers but i hate to make the commitment.

What is leaky gut? Too scared to google it

You might feel weird initially when taking Probiotics if your system is over-run with bad bacteria ( judging by the issues you listed, you sound pretty over-run with bad bacteria). This is what they call Die-off. "The probiotic bacteria make it to your digestive system, they start destroying pathogenic bacteria, viruses, and fungi. When these pathogens die they release toxins and these are the toxins that give you your symptoms, so whatever is typical for you may temporarily get worse until it clears from your system." So you are probably feeling the effects of the mass killings of the bad bacteria.

The collagen powder or bone broth you are taking is a great idea. That has the Glutamine that protects and feeds the intestinal cells. The amino acids Proline and Glycine tighten the gut lining. Sorry to hear you been going through all those symptoms, but it sounds like you are already on the right track to eliminating all those issues.

+ 1 probiotics are legit.

Also,

Zinc and Magnesium are essential vitamins that fuel and support hundreds of process's in the gut and support digestion.... coincidentally enough something like 65%+ of Americans are Zinc and magnesium deficient

Been supplementing zinc and mag. daily for almost a year now and definitely can tell a difference in my bowel movements, overall gut well being, and not having issues waking up in the morning with my stomach on fire.

but dont take my word for it, look it up :smokin

I need to get on this but am scared cause of all the unknown crap they put in them. I was eating activia and a banana because my nurse said I needed to try and eat probiotic + food. Recently I had to cut off dairy products such as milk and even the yogurt because they didn't help with my breathing, vommiting, and phlegm (not your normal type) build up. My weight went from 190 to 150-155 in a matter of weeks and we're trying to gain some strength & weight back, at least to 165-170 so now I have to drink Ensure 3 times a day since trying to eat a lot just left me bloated and uncomfortable. Might order that pack @jay patt posted and see if it helps. The go live stuff seems good as well kind of convenient, but does anyone have any real first hand long term experience with any of this stuff?

Yeah, if I were you I would give Probiotics as shot for 30 days (some people feel difference after a week). I only tried it because I had several teeth pulled and consumed alot of antibiotics over the years. In learning what these things can do and that it wouldn't hurt me either way, I gave it a shot. I wanted to see if I could get some extra energy back. I don't use GoLive, it just had an easy to watch and accurate cartoon I wanted to use.
so what's the best probiotic to invest in?

-You want around 10 different strains of organisms- which should include Lactobacillus Acidophulus and Bifidobacterium- two super strains.
-You want at least 10 billion CFU/ colonies. (The more strains and or cfu's, the better, you cant take too much)
Alot of probioticss you gotta keep in the fridge. Depending on your lifestyle , this may be difficult, but there are freeze-dried ones that don't require refrigeration.
* If you have food allergies, you wanna make sure that the capsule(if taking pill form) is something that doesn't go against what you can consume
*Also, some cheap probiotics dont even survive the stomach to make it to your intestines to colonize it, so you want one that speaks to that, to be sure.

I suffer from anxiety & a real weak stomach and have noticed improvements since I began taking the pills. Could be some placebo effect, but it can't hurt to try.
