The pay it forward chain at a Florida McDonald's continued on for 250 cars and the woman who started it just wanted a "Merry Christmas" to go along with their order!

A pay it forward chain at McDonald's in Florida continued on for hours until customer number 251 broke up the festivities. This wasn’t any run-of-the-mill pay it forward line, no, this McDonald’s pay it forward crowd was all about the spirit of Christmas.

According to Fox News on December 14, a woman started the pay it forward event around 9 a.m., which is still breakfast time. She wanted to pay for the car in back of her and asked the McDonald’s cashier to do one thing for her and that was to tell the customer she said “Merry Christmas," not "happy holidays."

That’s just what cashier Marisabel Figueroa Lopez did and to her amazement, this kept on going. Once customer number 15 paid for the car behind them, Lopez started writing down how many cars continued on with the pay it forward event.

According to Bay News Channel 9, this one special customer in Lakeland, Florida, reminded people what the holidays are all about. Politically correct or not, a Merry Christmas is an old fashion greeting that can be sent out to anyone no matter what their religion or beliefs may be.

Lopez said she'd like to thank that special customer for starting this chain, which really made a lot of people feel good that day. Whoever she is, that chain she started made folks stop and realize how this season is about caring for others and not just shopping until you've stretched your credit to the limit!

From 9 a.m. to about 3 p.m. the customers continued to pay for the car behind them. When customer number 251 pulled up to the drive-thru window and was told that the car in front of her paid for her order, she looked confused by the concept. She asked Lopez what she should do now and Lopez told her “nothing, you just have a merry Christmas.”

The woman drove off and the several hours of pay it forward ended. Lopez was in amazement that it went on that long from breakfast and through lunch. The folks were extremely generous to the strangers sitting in line behind them.

While 250 customers taking part in a pay it forward event is a pretty impressive number, it still didn't beat Starbucks in St. Petersburg, Florida. Starbucks had 378 customers pay it forward coming through the drive-in window before their chain was broken last year, reports Fox.

This is dope. Figured I'd share.

Lakeland is the pitts of life & all the racist hicks there should pay if forward and go straight to hell

my dad always use to pay for the car behind us at the toll on the way to SF.

how did they pay not knowing how much the order was gonna cost?

I'm pretty sure they would ask. Once you order, they have your price at the window.

They honestly inspired me to do this. McDonald's and Starbucks is ALWAYS packed, so I probably do both.

Calling ducktales on this. 250? Nah man  not buying it

There def was a handful of people that was like "aww that's so sweet" and just proceeded to drive away lol

By the time you pull up to the window, the car behind you has already/is in the process of ordering
