'Pay it forward' McDonald's drive-thru chain: Car 251 ends Merry Christmas mode

I love the whole Pay It Forward movement. I do it all the time.

But I really dont like the whole fast food drive thru window "Pay It Forward" thing.

People were already going to pay McD for food. It doesnt take a whole lot of paying it forward to when you planned on spending that money anyway.

In what scenarios do you like PIF?

Yeah, this is mad suspect. Some people order $20 of stuff from Mickey D's and I may of just pulled through for a $1 coffee. I'm not believing it went 250 deep - i've seen the people that usually end up at Mickey D's. Also, it's too confusing to make it 250 deep...not everyone is going to get what's going on (they'll think Mickey D's took care of em for some merry xmas holiday special or something).

^^Mostly when its obvious that it is coming from the heart.
Especially when its a situation where a person cannot do for themselves what you are about to do for them.
The joy that person feels is what makes it worth it.

Getting some free food and then in turn paying for someone else's food is almost like a wash to me. Its still a nice gesture but meh overall. IMO

I had a lady pay it forward for me at Starbucks last thanksgiving. It was impossible for me NOT to pay it forward.

That is one of the kindest gestures you can receive from a person.

Is it really a wash? You're giving someone the same great feeling that was given to you. Can't put a price on that.

^^Its not, but it almost feels like one to me. Not that it isnt a nice thing or anything.

I think I see what you mean though. Kinda like, they're only doing it because they feel like they have to? It wasn't something that came about naturally so it comes off as disingenuous?

I feel bad for the workers... You gotta work at Mickie D's, get payed a crap wage AND deal with customers paying for other people's food?... No thank you ...

What if you only ordered a mcdouble and they car behind you ordered for their entire family...

I was at IHOP one day with my kid and we had some cards playing the matching game. A lady and her teenage son were across from me and she kept smiling at me, I'm think ma choosing over there. She left and the waitress brought me a napkin and said the lady paid for my food.on the napkin she wrote thank u for being a father and how she raised her son by herself and it was refreshing to see young people taking time and being dads. I ain't gonna lie I felt kinda boss and tipped the lady what my food was gonna cost.

See that's what I'd do... I honestly would probably never think to "pay it forward"... But I'd tip the waiter(ess) whatever my meal cost shoulda been...

You should have paid her what your meal was + 20%. You are a horrible person Wilton

I don't see how some of you don't see how this is a confusing scenario for some

What's confusing about pulling up to a window and saying "hey, I'm gonna pay for the person behind me as well. How much was their order?"

Wait, you're right. That's pretty much rocket science.

I think it's just the timing of it all and a person just straight up eating w/e the price of the order of the ppl behind them is no matter what that's bothering them.

I keep my own orders in the $7-$11 range but I know if I'm buying for fam that's $25+. What I look like possibly adding an extra $20 to that?
