I did that but season 1 and 2 are very loosely connected season 1 is all about character building. Season 2 is a major change of plot.

Finished season 2 and still confused about the timeline w/ the Trade Minister or the events in his life for that stint. I wonder how many more seasons the show has in it and when it will tie everything together.

The whole timeline, couldn't tell if he was reminiscing before the war, but then again Juliana was his grandchild's mother so in the current reality, she doesn't even know who he was in the beginning. Everything else I'll to unfold like the films

don't think they have actually really given alot of info on his timeline, he did look like he recognized Juliana in season. I get the feeling he is able to move between alternate realities. Looks like we'll get more answers next season.

Tagomi, through meditation on his wife, accidentally entered "another world", which is an alternate timeline similar to our real world (Allies won WWII), and is seen in many of "the films". (Note that the films show several different possible realities based on decisions that the characters make.)
In this alternate world where Japan was defeated, Tagomi's son marries Juliana, but Tagomi's relationship with his family has greatly deteriorated due to the fact that he has been absent, since he has been living in the main TMITHC timeline. However, he is able to patch things up with them before he returns to the main timeline with the film of the H-bomb that was recorded in that reality.
After Tagomi returns to the main timeline, Tagomi's aide is revealed to be from "the other world" by the scars on his arms that he sustained from the atomic bomb blast at Nagasaki. He accidentally entered this world while meditating to try to ease the pain of his injuries in the other world.
So by knowing of at least two characters that have traveled between the worlds, and knowing that it is possible to bring physical objects (like a film reel) back with you, we now start to understand where "the films" are coming from (alternate realities) and how they might be available in the main timeline (meditation).
This is WAY deeper than the book got. The TV show is better than the book in every way, IMO.

I first suspected at the end of season 1 but when you mentioned the film he brought back, it made sense. Now the question that remains, how many people can do it?

I dont think he was absent but rather that he was dead but assumed to be missing; didn't alternate Juliana mention that he went missing in the fog and implied that he jumped from a bridge. I think that your counterpart has to be dead in order to move between realities. Thats why Tagomi's aide stayed in TMITHC timeline because his family died in the alternate timeline and its assumed he is dead in the TMITHC timeline

I bet you're right. That was the one part that didn't make perfect sense when I was re-reading my post. It wouldn't make sense for there to be a version of Juliana in both timelines but for Tagomi to only have one.
Very good theory about who can move between timelines... if true, that would avoid the paradox of seeing yourself.

Well, we saw that Tagomi brought a film back. And we also have proof that Tagomi is not the only person who can travel between worlds via meditation (his aide did, too). So hypothetically others have discovered this technique and are intentionally doing it to bring back films.

Finally finished season 2. Enjoyed the season a lot. Not a fan of juliana or joe but I like how the man in the high castle explained why juliana was so important. She did kind of deserve some happiness at the end of the season. Not sure how that person is alive unless the death was staged from the very beginning to get juliana involved.

Yeah, seems like it would've have to have been a staged death... then again, this show has really taken an interesting turn towards the end of Season 2, so who knows what is possible?

I wish the seasons were longer. They leave you wanting more. Tempted to read the books but I don't wanna spoil the show for myself.

Is there more than one book? I read "The Man in the High Castle." To be honest, I willed myself through it... it was pretty dry at times. The show is way better, IMO, lol

The show takes what was in the book and expands way more from it. The book is more philosophical, while the show obviously has more action and much more developed storylines. Both do a good job of character development, which is one of the hooks of the show, I think.
I don't think you NEED to read the book if you watch the show, but I feel I enjoy the show that much more because I can mentally compare things that happen with my memory of how things went in the book. A few things are a little different, but there are a lot of "echoes" that I recognize from the book that make me smile while watching
A LOT of new content was added compared to the book, especially in Season 2, but they used stuff from the book through the end of at least Season 2.
It might actually have been easier to read having already watched the show, though, as you would already have a vivid mental image of the characters, which would keep you more engaged through the boring parts, lol
