ADIDAS X YEEZY COLLAB OFFICIAL 2016 THREAD - (NO LC PICS PLEASE!)

Adidas's strategy is a little confusing to me. The goal is to sell sneakers. They're dominating the conversation, the mind share of the enthusiast market, but hype doesn't pay bills— that stock price tumbles just as quickly as it rises. You have to sell shoes to people. I can't get over that 50K number. There have been 8 yeezy releases (if you include the 2nd Pirate drop) that number can't be right. If it is, it's obvious the goal isn't to sell shoes—the notion that Adidas can't physically manufacture more is absurd—they must have some other grand scheme in the works.

I'd say a style is what makes you a *******, not quality. If those pants are what makes him a ******* then he would look that way regardless of whether he paid $60 for them $950.

Keep doing your thing picasso

Oh trust me, I aint mad.

Ill post more fboi pics here by days end. :smokin

Matt Powell works on the number side of things

He made a good point, that the demand was always there. just the supply wasn't met when speaking of the Adidas Classic line

when supply's doubled sales doubled

People are quick to give the credit to Kanye and not the actual product.

He said Adi resigned Kanye to try a recoup Sunk Cost from the project like Nike and KD

Josh said this "If there was 4-10x demand > supply for classics we would've had resell premiums. We didn't"

So Resell Market is how these companies measure the demand????

interesting

Powell's strict adherence to numbers may be blinding him a bit. Yeezy has definitely had a positive impact on the brand (he's changed the way I look at Adidas, for one) and that shift in the discussion around the brand combined with genuinely brilliant design work from Adidas has lead to their resurgence. Adidas is a cool brand again, which can only help the sales of their other sneakers. 50K Yeezy sales is abysmal though. We all knew the Yeezy jumped over Jumpan talk was just Ye being Ye, but they're not even in striking distance. They need to be making 10x that amount.

Looking forward to checking out what kicks they show off during SZN 4 today. Maybe I'll even like some of the clothes this time...

Yes Matt works on the # portion, he takes a given number and extrapolates that into his data number.

Some of what he says is inline with the info i have, most of it is not inline.

I do contribute Adi's success to Kanye.

Demand is always there..... um.... a few years ago white/black superstar was EVERYWHERE in terms of retailers offering the model.. why wasnt it selling through then?

and yes i can poke holes through a lot of his "analytics"

Yes, their strategy and grand scheme is to (like most other businesses) is to focus on making money and how to reduce expenses in the process. Working with sports leagues, athletes and their product lines > selling Yeezy Boosts

It could be that the "sunk cost" of Kanye that Adidas pays is simply having him as a spokesperson and brand ambassador MORESO than pushing large numbers of his actual product and his work as a designer. Also, Adidas did not partner with him on clothing from Yeezy Season 2 and beyond, which leads me to believe that they also view him in this role.

The ONE thing that throws a wrench into my argument is that they are now expanding the Yeezy Brand (signaled by the new jobs they announced). Now, how much they actually expand it is anyone's guess. I'm not holding my breath for Yeezy Boost 500k+ pair GRs anytime soon though.

Canada is the worst

TMZ just reported: According to TMZ Kanye sold $780,000 in merch during the 9/5 Saint Pablo Tour show at MSG. Now the most ever at that venue.

:wow:  in other news

Wow. Lines were crazy, especially at the entrance. I went to a shop in the upper levels, were the line was much shorter. But between the entrance time and the beginning of the concert was a very long time.

Understand that brand expansion does not equal increased production, but it does equal new products (which we will see today).

I can't stand these damn bean counters like Powell. Superstar supply wasn't substantial? Are you kidding me!? You could go into any shoe store in the world two years ago and find Superstars on shelves. They're still on shelves everywhere. They're selling more because of current demand for adidas product. Not increased supply. That's so mind numbing. I am not hating on the Superstar. That was my go to shoe all throughout high school. It's a classic. But to say sales increased because they were finally able to meet demand is crazy. You can tell this dude just reads numbers off a sheet and thinks he understands the business and the game. Yes, he has mad connects in the industry and at adidas. And I'm sure there are some adidas designers (most likely old heads) who are upset that Kanye and other celebrities are getting credit for adidas' current success and not them. I get it. But Kanye's influence on the brand cannot be ignored. And you also have to consider another aspect Kanye brings to adidas: Kim Kardashian and the Kardashian clan. Hate her or love her, she is one of the most famous people on the planet rocking her husband's designs and other adidas product. The whole fam was team adidas until Kylee signed with Puma. Influence. Influence. Influence.

Another thing he said about marketing having no effect if the product is bad. ARE YOU F'ING SERIOUS BRO!? SOMEONE SOLD A GOD DAMN PET ROCK. 1.5 MILLION PET ROCKS!!! ROCKS!!!  MARKETING IS EVERYTHING. INFLUENCE IS EVERYTHING. YOU CAN SELL ANYTHING IF YOU MARKET IT RIGHT. AND IF YOU GET THE PRODUCT INTO THE HANDS AND ONTO THE BODIES AND FEET OF THE RIGHT PEOPLE. DONE WITH THIS DUDE.

Also agree with someone I think here or on Twitter, about it being a perfect storm. You have all these new influential people coming to adidas and adidas really hit their stride with Boost and primeknit. It is the best cushion out. But it was mainly known in runner's circles. Most of ya'll likely weren't rocking Boost products until Kanye shed the ultralight beam on it.
