Amount of vacation days you have in 2016 | where u going

I receive 3 weeks of PTO every year + most federal holidays. This excludes personal days (total of 3, paid) and rolling holidays (total of 3, paid)

Last year, I vacationed in Europe (UK, France, Swtzld, Italy, and the Nthlnds).

This year, I stayed home for vacation because my money was better spent reducing my debt obligation (student loans).

Thinking of traveling again this year; however, I will more than likely stay stateside. Louisiana is on the list of must visit places in '16.

Maybe a short beach trip in August. Either that or some resort with a really nice pool. Can't do a lot while the kid is under a year. Not going to be one of those parents who drag their newborns everywhere.

got about 130 hrs of PTO to use. i take a friday off every once in awhile just to use the hrs and relax and get a longer "weekend"
you guys do solo trips? kind of hard to coordinate and figure out other availability and i dont mind it.

300 or so. 200 normally (5 weeks)

Some rolled since you can't get cashed out

Weekend in Santa Barbara in April - then 2-3 week road trip to Yellowstone and Whitefish for the 4th of July

Other than that, take two weeks off at the end of each year but the firm has done it in a way where you don't need to use too much PTO

Why? Out of curiosity. We have a 15 week year old ourselves.

 probably because newborns really want to just nap and drink formula/breastmilk all day.

plus their immune system isn't all that strong, you don't want to bring them around a lot of people because they could catch something.

and just a host of other reasons man like c'mon. how is this even a stumper? this new generation man, they want to globe trot, parent and put it on IG all at the same damn time.

I have 140 hours of vacation and 40 sick hours.

I need to start using some vacation time.

No vacation days, take what I want. If I was a Journeyman and not in apprentice, I could ask for a layoff and collect unemployment while on vacation.

I'd like to take 2 weeks off this year, don't know when or how.

2 weeks of vacation time. I have 4 days carrying over. And I also have 60 hours of "personal time." Plan is to backpack in Europe for 2 weeks in August.

I only use my "use or lose" time for leave.

I should be at about 18 days of annual leave for the year. I keep 30 days banked (240) essentially at all times.

I need to start letting my sick leave accumulate tho.

+almost have 10 years in the gov, so i get 6 hours of leave per pay period/2 weeks. Cant wait till i am banking 8.+

I mean a new, new born yes I get that. However, there's an element to bringing your child places so they learn new environments, etc.

We had to contemplate bringing ours to Greece before he'd be 1. We ultimately said no, way too much but had to give it some thought

The idea of being housebound/area bound is reason enough to test some limits

I'm not talking bringing him to some romantic, beach type resort but there's no way we're giving up every sort of "freedom" either.

A newborn isn't going to learn new environments. They're too busy staring at mommy's and daddy's faces.

Listen bruh, the fact that YOU brought up the concept of "giving up freedoms" tells me you're still in the mind-frame that having a child means you have to sacrifice a lot of personal time and past indulgences but you're not willing to accept that.

I'm not going to tell you how to raise your kids, I can just tell you that as a 2X father myself, it's not realistic to think you're going to be able to have the leeway to go on road trips and what not without major complications. Kids do not like being confined in cars over long periods of time. They'll nod out after a while but when they wake up and see they're STILL in the car, they're going to scream bloody murder.

Kids get fussy, they get tired, they have very short attention spans and they ****. I mean they **** a lot. I mean they **** so god damned much I wonder how such tiny people can produce so much ****.

And they get sick, sick out of nowhere. A baby running a fever is ******* crisis status. It's drop everything you're doing and take the kid to the ER or at the very least urgent care status. Why? Because the baby tylenol isn't bringing down her fever and she's fussy as hell.

At the end of the day when you have a kid your life is no longer your own. You owe your time and consideration to those little ones. They ain't ask to be born and they sure as hell are not on our time I'll tell you that much. They got their own plans and pleighboi lemme tell ya, they don't line up with ours. The only trip I'm planning is to Disney Aulani (Hawaii) and I'm pretty certain I'm going to be exhausted by the trips end. **** ain't for me for damned sure.

Best of luck.

Woah man. Ok.

Thanks for your input. Again, not saying going to Tahiti but a simple road trip - for example, Tahoe 3-4 hours away from the crib at 13 weeks is more so what I was referring to. My wife's work provides for travel and because of that we have different perspective. Our travel is usually based on her work and we parlay it into chilling out wherever it takes her. Very well aware of self sacrifice and putting not only one, but two people's best interest ahead of mine

And just so it's clear - we have a kid.

Govenment as well. Im currently using my use or lose leave. Have the whole next week off. I don't really take much vacations. Just days off here and there.

Six weeks. Planning one "major" getaway (a 2 week trip to Italy) and one "minor" vacation (week on a Caribbean cruise). Then a couple long weekends to Orlando and San Antonio. Rest of the vacation time is reserved for visiting friends & family out of state and in case I want to do a random 3-4 day weekend.
