Dolphins now have hired Adam Gase, per source. Done deal.

Dolphins pick Chris Grier as their new GM

The Miami Dolphins were not without a general manager very long.

Chris Grier, who has been with the Dolphins 16 seasons, has been tapped as the general manager to succeed Dennis Hickey. The only thing remaining from this becoming official are contract details that are expected to be ironed as early as Monday.

The Dolphins declined to confirm this hiring.

Grier has been the team director of college scouting and is widely respected in NFL personnel circles. Grier joined the Dolphins after spending five years with the New England Patriots.

The list of successful personnel men and NFL general managers that vouch for Grier is ample. Among these: Jerry Reese of the New York Giants, Dave Gettleman of the Carolina Panthers, Rick Spielman of the Minnesota Vikings and Hall of Famer Bill Parcells.

Grier, who interviewed for the New York Jets GM job last year, just completed his 21st NFL season and is no stranger to talent evaluation because he basically grew up in it. Grier's father Bobby Grier was in the New England Patriots front office from 1982-99. Bobby Grier is currently the senior personnel advisor with the Houston Texans.

The Dolphins moved quickly on this matter. They identified in-house candidates they were impressed by and chose one. On Saturday they parted ways with Hickey after the former GM declined a reassignment within the organization.

Once the Grier contract is signed, he will immediately become a voice within the organization. Aside from being the top talent evaluation officer within the organization, he is expected to join the club's search for a head coach.

The Dolphins will begin that search immediately with executive vice president Mike Tannenbaum being the point man on a committee that includes vice chairman Matt Higgins, president and CEO Tom Garfinkel and owner Stephen Ross.

Ross obviously will weigh the recommendations of his advisors and be the final authority on who is hired as coach.

The Dolphins’ 2016 opponents are set. Besides AFC East teams, Miami will play at home against Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Arizona, San Francisco and Tennessee, and will play on the road against Baltimore, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Seattle and San Diego.

Thoughts on who you want as HC, Draft, Free Agency Etc

Dolphins saying that Tannehill's fate is the new Head Coaches decision. :smh:

He needs to leave, and go somewhere else where he has a legitimate shot of success. He doesn't deserve this franchise. Hopefully he falls into an Alex Smith situation.

Gutting the entire coaching staff is probably the more likelihood occurrence as opposed to Tanney being traded away

...well, there is being released as on option lol. But I haven't lost all optimism with Tanney just yet

Chip.
Ramsey.
Miller/OV.
(really don't know who else is hittin FA, haven't looked into it)

I'm excited in our young WRs. Landry and Parker are going to do some damage in the future

I honestly like all of the Dolphins offensive weapons.
Miller and Ajayi could be a dynamic 1-2 back.

Fix. The. Line.
Bring in someone who... you know... can call offensive plays and can use the talent.

Looks like the Dolphins will have the number 8 pick.

I love Miller, buuuuuut, I might be OK letting him go. Save the money, and the 2017 RB class is LOADED.

If they keep him, great, but RB is such a cheap position, I wouldn't overpay him.

I say that, and he'll sign in New England and flourish.

Overpay? No No No...
Like you said the RB draft is super deep and I've loved Ajayi sine Boise St.
Damien and Ajayi should be fine without Miller.
But the Dolphins constantly let go of home grown talent and they will flourish. He will go to the Patriots and rush for 1600 and 13 tds on his way to a super bowl.

Lmfao I didn't even finish what you wrote CP and we legit said the same thing. It's inevitable.

Always happens with the Dolphins... it will happen again. Death, Taxes, Dolphins f-ck things up.

#Dolphins' Jarvis Landry breaks NFL record most for most receptions in first two seasons with 194. Odell Beckham second all-time at 187

In play should be Vernon, Ramsey, Stanley, and Jack.

I'm not a huge fan of Vernon, I like Fuller better. Vernon will get pushed around like crazy in the NFL. Just not a fan...

Ramsey at Free Safety.
Go back in the second and third to address MLB and Corner. The remaining rounds at DE and OLine.

If, for whatever reason, Tunsil drops you jump on him without hesitation.

Also, Bosa could be interesting. Pair him with Suh + Jordan, get back DJ... who knows.

For sure options.

Team needs to go Oline with that pick. Address DB in the second.

But I can see them skipping all of that, getting rid of Tanne, and going with Paxton Lynch :smh:

Add Mike Shanahan + D-Coordinator for the Lions to the coachinh interview list. Honestly think the ladder is rooney rule.

Want no part of Shanahan either. David Shaw + Sumlin not even getting a phone call (from anyone) is beyond me.

Shanahan or Gase would be solid hires for the offense. Who they bring in as DC would be the key.

Gase has a par offense and no head coaching experience.

Shanahan hasn't won anything since two super bowls... a team that was already in place. And has left a trail of fire and waste in Denver and Washington.

So yea... both should be right up the Dolphins ally.

Shanahan fits because he's a real HC. We haven't had an actual HC since Saban.

Also, he can make ANY RB a 1,000 yard rusher.

Why?

He's really, really, really good with Oline.

That's why key is, will he bring solid DC? Schwartz? Another former Head Coach? That might just work.

A real HC.
A former HC leading the Def.
A coach that can help Tannehill, find value at RB, and coach an Oline, with our receivers to boot.

Land a couple of nice defensive pieces in the draft, find another OG or two, and rework a few contracts, we could see some real improvement.

Super Bowl? No. Too soon for that.

But steps toward building a better 53, with coaches that scheme and attack weaknesses, that TEACH players. Yeah.
