So before you point me to the NFL.com rules available on the site, the rule is a little vague. Me and my friends have been in a debate on what would end the game.

Here's the scenario:

NFL Overtime Question: If team A, on their first possession scores a field goal and team B, on the next possession throws an interception to team A, and on the same play is stripped of the ball for a fumble, and team B recovers it, is the game over since team B, technically turned the ball over?

Now the rule says the interception must finish to "completion" so does that mean the team that picked it off would have to slide or be tackled to the ground?

Help me out guys, I don't think this scenario has ever happened. Provide a source if you can, thanks!

Team B would have the ball.

Play didn't end with an interception but it wouldn't happen because the player would most likely just fall down or go out of bounds.

Game wouldn't be over. Team B keeps the ball. The whistle hasn't blown to call the play dead after the first Intial interception, it only isn't until he fumbles the ball, turns it back over and the guy who recovered the ball is back in possession after being tackled.

Team B gets the ball back.

First of all, the NFL defines initial possessions in overtime as "opportunity to possess the football", with the clear implication of "opportunity to score" (barring an opening TD by the initial receiving team, obviously).

Second, physically holding the football does not constitute a possession. Think of it this way: when a defensive back runs an interception back for a touchdown, is that considered a possession for the team that scored? Nope.

Hence, Team B gets another chance....which is still just the same chance, basically.

Both teams would've had possession of the ball, when team B recovers the ball they would have pretty much have had to do a scoop & score.

The game is over otherwise, team A wins.

Whoa wait, this is contradicting what we have above.....
